I just want Sakurai to say something explicitly about him. They've pretty much cut loose on adding third party stuff but he hasn't said so much of a word about Snake. He talked about Ice Climbers, why not Snake. I just need to know for sure he tried. He did try at least, right?

He said that about Melee and Brawl too. But Iwata kept asking him to make the next one and he couldn't decline. He might actually leave Smash for good now that Iwata has died. Hopefully he'll make more games like Air Ride and Uprising.

This is the worst part. I just have a hard time seeing him come back even in the next game, I would have loved a final send off to the character in Smash 4. I guess we'll always have Brawl.

No, Kojima said it you fucking moron. He was open to him returning and said all it would take is Sakurai giving him a call.
Konami had nothing to do with it, Sakurai decided he didn't want Snake in for whatever reason (likely because he has nothing to do with Nintendo and was only added as a favor)

Konami also would have freely played balled now for the Ballot, they've already been licensing IPs to Nintendo. If Nintendo wanted to pay for his inclusion, they could have.

I'm sorry but I thought you were talking about a particular article that was published by some noname site (Fox weekly I think) soon after Smash's release seeing as you used its phrasing (never on his mind) It claimed to have an informant who gaves those details. Kojima saying he didn't think it was likely was a few months before the game was released in an interview that you can watch yourself, but it doesn't really give details like that particular article did.
