It's almost a near clone of PR, but I'm pretty sure the gunplay is better.

You can spawn on guys, but respawn times get longer (up to 60 seconds) if you die a lot. Bullets don't kill immediately but do make you start bleeding out and require that you get medical treatment. Not being part of a squad will get you banned on most servers. Kits are limited, only 2 snipers per team, and only if certain requirements are met (at least 3 people in squad, at least 10 people on team). Games are generally more about holding points than killing guys. Lots of hiking, let transport team do their job and transport you, and don't you dare think about taking a heli if you don't have a pilot kit and at least 3 hours flying offline.

Completely different beast.

Games like Red Orchestra and Insurgency are Call of Duty that focus on stamina mechanics and realistic bullet projectile models.

I don't know much about Squad honestly, but in PR bullet projectile physics were forsaken (partly due to the limitations of the BF2 engine) and much more focus on teamwork. You will need to join a squad and listen to his orders. If your squad leader doesn't make orders or is stupid, you should hope that the other squad slots aren't filled.

It's a milsim so there will the autists who require proper radio etiquette and shit but it's not gonna be as autistic as Arma. Probably wont see much of those people unless you go looking for them and join a community or a clan or something.

Team has tickets (like BF) and you spawn at FOBs and rally points which are places by the squad leaders. Respawn time is a few seconds.

At the moment US, Russian forces, Turbanheads and Militia. Dunno if there will be more official ones but there will be more modded in like in PR. Some ppl are already working on that stuff and some WW2 mods or something.

One of the biggest problems with PR, Red Orchestra, and other team based games is that idiots have 0 fucking idea what they're doing half the time, especially at a slightly higher level, and this leads to an experience thay is fun at first but rapidly wears thin as personal skill grows but collective skill remains shit. Then people leave and it drops further.

Used to be the pilots in PR talked to each other and knew where the aa nets were and told faggot squad leaders off if they tried to send them there. Used to be a lot more communication and a lot less horseshit, and that's just the nature of the type of game.

Or is that fixed, to some extent?

In PR? It isn't a problem unless you make it a problem. Most shit pilots get kicked quickly or the team rags on them hard enough so they resign their position.

I'm not sure what you mean. I've not actully played as a squad leader but as far as I understand it you press G and it transmits to all other squad leaders.

It used to be setup that you could contact squad leaders individually using the numpad keys, so if you wanted to yell at the tanks it was a lot easier with a lot less noise on the nets. You did have to tell them who you were though, which a lot didnt do. I'd get called by someone who didn't tell me who the fuck they were first.

This is why video games are so shit nowadays. Used to be that you could and would play multiplayer video games with random people on a server and eventually just got to know the regulars better and then you'd have new friends. That's how I've made most of my internet buddies and Squad is one of the few new games that makes something like that possible and even encourages it because of how the game works.

Just get on a server and start playing the game, if the people you are in a squad with are annoying you change squads or servers. If you still can't find people you like to play with then I'd say the problem is in you.

There are a few chinese and australian servers. Ping isn't much of an issue though, anything up to 200 or so is playable in this game. It's not a twitch shooter so playing from europe on american servers is perfectly doable for example.

We can have long discussions about how the whole EA concept doesn't work but in the end there are a few title for whom it does work and actual devs delivering.

Prison Architect and ARMA 3 comes to mind.

What if, just what if, Squad is another one. It does seem like another military shooter, but it'sn ot your battlefield nor call of duty and it's something you should check out if you're into FPS games. It does the realism immersion quite well to be frank.
