I remember.
I bought myself a used 360 Core from TigerDirect for my twentieth birthday. It was the very first model that didn't even have an HDMI port, so you had to use component or VGA cables for high-def vidya.
It RRODed, Microsoft fixed it for free, and it still works to this day.
I still have my launch-day 360, never had to send it out to service.

I'm willing to bet that most RRoD cases were people enclosing their 360s inside of entertainment centers with little or no airflow.
I very rarely hear of people getting one RRoD, it's usually a string of them. That's where it sounds like user error to me. Not saying there isn't some faulty manufacturing, the components were held together with the effectiveness of chewed up gum.

I did while I waited on microsoft to send the box
I used this thing called a "fan". I kept it behind my 360 and turned it on every time I used my 360. Had the same 360 for three years and practically never turned it off.
