Need some input building a rig for 1080p video editing and some gaming.
Budget is 1300 best case scenario, 1500 tops.
Not sure if 970 is overkill. Gaming isn't the priority here, but I'd like to be able to run most modern games at med-high. Maybe a 960 or 770 would be better to cut costs but I'm not sure.

970 is plenty for 1080, though you might not be able to totally max out some newer games or poorly optimized ones, but you'll never have to give up on too much quality for stable fps.

The only thing there that's overkill is the processor. You pretty much never need more than an i5 for gaming. Here's a better build for the money.
Also, do NOT, and I mean do NOT skimp on a shitty power supply like that CX corsair.
Get a reputable brand with a good warranty like EVGA. Also, the 390 is waaaay better than the 970 for the price. Also, this is under your budget.
Expect to dominate 1080p games and even 1440 to an extent. Or, you can do what I did and stay at 1080p but get a 144Hz monitor, which is little over $200. I recommend the ASUS VG248QE

I need the i7 for the video editing and rendering and whatnot. I'll swap out the PSU and others though. Not sure about the whole 1080p vs 1440p but I'll think about it.
