You honestly want to know what it is? The bare bones fact is that the core audience of any given game will feel a sense of betrayal if a company drastically changed their game for a sequel simply to appeal to more people and thereby make more money. That's the reason behind it, whether the person complaining consciously knows it or not. They feel betrayed because the game they helped, even just a little bit, make enough money that the developers decided to make a sequel, is now something different and people don't like change.
Not saying it's good or bad, that's just the honest answer to your question.

Thus meaning that anyone else's opinion that conflicts with their opinion is either a "meme" or just "the wrong opinion" with-out fail.
