My response was pretty much just "Oh, we're doing that now, huh? That might be cool." The impact of crazy third parties has definitely diminished for me but maybe that's just because I never played FF7.
Though I didn't think about it til just now but he's the first third party with a true alternate costume, which is kind of neat. A shame none of the others got that, or were saddled with really shit alternate colors.

Honestly, Cloud's biggest surprise other than "HOLY SHIT CLOUD JUST LIKE BRAWL TAUNTS" is that he basically opened the floodgates for when Smash 5 eventually comes around.

The gameplay of All stars was just stiff in general next to smash.
There's nothing fun about disintegrating your opponent with a move you had to build up a gauge to get, when you can suprise backhand someone off the whole fucking screen.

I've never played FF7 but I've got secondhand excitement for people who lost their shit when he was announced, he looks really fucking good. I was watching some analysis of his trailer and apparently his roll is even faster than Shiek's. If FF7 ever comes to the VC I'll have to give it a shot. I didn't play any Mega Man games until he was revealed in Smash, then I got 1-3 on my 3DS and I love them. I really hope Banjo and Kazooie get in tomorrow, but that will never happen, unfortunately. I hope I at least get Rayman.

I think they tried to keep the costs down. If they had to pay for every third-party character in the game they would lose on the deal fast. Most characters in that game are characters that just recently had a game released, so putting them there mostly worked as which motivated a lower cost

He didn't really though. We've known since Snake was added that Nintendo ties weren't of the utmost importance. Cloud broke fan's made-up rules, but he technically didn't break any of the criteria Sakurai set out when he revealed Snake.
