5 is probably the most balanced game in the series and you can if you wish make archers very strong if you use your scrolls right.
10 has the doublebow and Shinon has a defense stat that makes absolutely zero sense but I'm totally okay with how good it is.
Also any game with canto after attacking automatically makes archers worth it. Which is another reason why they're great in 4. Lester with a hero bow is a great way of either softening or outright killing without any harm to your own units.

Well, the total promotion gains to Paladin give you 4 Speed in total, whereas Recruit to General give +3. So you'd cap slightly earlier.
Hell, checking the caps, even the female Great Knight caps at 25 Speed. The only class that appreciates Amelia's Speed growth is the Super Trainee one, but that one suffers from hilarious 23 Strength and 22 Defense caps (and 26 Res, which she's obviously gonna reach with 15% growth).
