It's actually pretty fun, i miss the big ass thermo nuclear explosions from the old games, but it's an acquired taste to watch a lumbering giant collapse in a pile of metal and smoke.

But take in consideration this:
The CBills bonus as a Cadet will expire, and you won't be getting that incredible money boost after you're done, so spend wisely that money in a chassis you like
Sitck with your teammates. Know your role and work as a team.
Work as a team.
WORK AS A FUCKING TEAM. Press Caps lock and give the coordinates of the enemy locations if you see one. Don't rely on the radar only, as not everyone is paying attention to the map.
Whales will thank you for spotting enemies. Guide and escort the assaults into a juicy enemy pocket and protect them from the enemy fire with harass as a medium or heavy.
Aim for unarmored or damaged enemy parts. It can crit and blow up, and you get extra money from limbs torn. Also a big ass scary mech is nothing without their main gun sometimes.
Have fun over all.
I recommend checking out the Hunchback as a good starting chassis. It's sturdy for its size, maneuverable, and hits like a fucking truck. It's a perfect urban enviroment medium brawler, and you can act like a henchman for the heavies and assaults.

Don't play CW until you have your 4 deck of custom chassis. Community Warfare is a hardcore mode and the community is almost always a premade team, so you would be better to know the game beforehand in Quick Match.
Oh and in the game options UNLOCK YOUR ARM AIM. It's turned locked by default, meaning you aim with your complete torso instead of your arms individually. This is kinda retarded, because the point of having arm guns is to have a bigger angle of aim and more precision with those guns.
Set the FOV to 80. It's my magic number, doesn't distort your view too much but you can have that peripheral vision in wider cockpits. Not on an Atlas, though, that cockpit is a funnel anyways.

Bullshit, that's what we have now, and it's still pretty playable. Before we had ten times that on a good day. We'd have a goddamn mechlab by now if it weren't for PGI. Don't remember much about AT1 aside from it having a board over on MekTek's forum. Played one of their builds, but no idea what happened to development. Wouldn't surprise me if PGI had them shut down.
God, now I'm pissed off again that MekPak 4 never got released. So many features.
At least the new battletech game has potential to be decent.
