So, I recently beat Fallout 1 and really enjoyed it, so i bought Fallout 2. I am about an hour in and finding it really boring. The melee weapons are useless and just miss all the time and I have only found 1 gun so far, but I ended up using all the ammo on the robot by the crashed enclave vertibird. Am I doing something wrong? Please help

Get Sulikbut DON'T make him use an SMG you retardand wait until you get a 10mm pistol which should be soon enough.
>>320124431
thanks
>>320123757
>not putting points into a weapon you will ALWAYS have at your disposal
It's like you don't WANT to win
>miss all the time
Melee requires a bit of points, even moreso for aimed shots
Post your special so we know what you're doing
probably you know this, but savescum as fuck and pickpocket anyone you see for bonus exp, it adds up. 1 extra level early game lets you max it into melee or w/e skill you wanna use which makes it a lot easier. since you miss once with melee and the next turn you might be bursted to death who knows. gl anon, the game's fun :)

I didn't like FO2 very much early on either, especially the segments in the village. It got much better, in my opinion, around Vault Town.
>>320123757
Post your build so I can criticize it and make you feel bad.
>>320124723
>encouraging savescumming
>>320123757
Save some cash and buy a pistol in the den
Okay, small arms, got pipe rifle , stole leather jacked from the tribal and got decent amount of points into stealing, guns and stealth, good shit or nah?
>>320125134
nah, stealth is shit
>>320125178
Ya sure? Not even for pickpocketing or does that not affect it at all?
>>320123757
you have to actually think about how you spend your points and perks in this game unlike modern titles, or you're gonna have 'useless' weapons
>inb4 he's the 1 AGI guy again
>>320124876
Sorry for the wait
its shit i know
Yeah the fallout 2 starts a tad slow. It gets a lot better once you reach Modoc.
>>320125915
Nah that guy is already at NCR. Should be smooth sailing for him once he gets a power armor.
>>320126132
>>320125915
He just beat the game. He literally has a thread up about it right now.
>>320125297
Stealth minorly effects pickpocketing, but just adds a very small amount of sp into the skill itself for every 10 points:1 or something like that.
>>320126131
Holy shit nigger, get some weapon skills, you really really need to prioritize combat in fallout if you don't plan on having companions protect you at all times
>>320126131
>Not tagging a weapon skill
That's where you fucked up.
>>32012487>>320126521
is it worth restarting?
>>320126568
\you're only on level 2 so yeah, why not?
>>320123757
Honestly and unironically, uninstall and play Fallout 4 instead. Or New Vegas.
The old Fallout games have the same bad writing, and even worse gameplay.
Dont torture yourself just so you can go on /v/ and be all oldfag and retro.
>>320126568
You aren't that far in so it'd be smart to but you can probably cheese your way with Sulik until you can level your skills.
>>320126521
>>320126624
for small guns, you can buy your way up to 75% using magazines
>>320126131
You're just level 2, re-do your build.
Never put more than 9 points into any SPECIAL.
Tag a weapon skill; avoid using melee or retarded character for your first playthrough.
Barter is purely for getting better prices, rather useless to tag, but whatever. Your choice.
I personally played without any companions, they get into the way.
>>320126131
> dis nigga got poisoned
complete some non-violent quests bruv
if yorue having a difficult time youre doing it right by western crpg standards
dont look up a guide either youll regret it
I have tagged small guns and speech what else should I tag?
What I did was
>Pour as many points as possible into small guns
>Make a beeline for Klamath, avoiding combat until you get your hands on a pipe rifle
>With the amount of points you dumped into small guns you should be able to kill rats and actually do quests and stuff
Another protip: Fallout 2's skillcap is a lot higher than Fallout 1's. In Fallout 1, you could survive easily splitting two gun perks, one for early game, one for lategame.
I wouldn't recommend that as much here since they offer way more lategame options for all weapon classes. You can hypothetically go all game with small guns because the gauss weapons are that fucking good.
>>320127338
pickpocket
>>320127474
ok thanks
>>320127508
just do lockpick
pickpocket is only useful for stealing your junk back from the fucking pickpockets in the den, lockpick will be useful for most of the game to some extent
>>320126131
>Tagging First Aid
Your first fuck up
The problem with Fallout 2 is that it doesn't have a time limit like the first game. You can literally just sit somewhere and sleep your damage away.
Fallout 1 didn't have this problem because sleeping wasted precious time. Same with the books. You couldn't spend your time just reading every book.
>>320123757
Drop of Vic as soon as you get to Vault City interior. Then replace him with Cass (bartender outside the city) and give him ammo and lots of love.
>>320127865
>precious time
>fallout 1
>precious time
>precious
You have like 10 fucking years to clear the final boss.
>>320127338
don't tag small guns
I just said you can buy your way up with magazines.
lockpicking, energy weapons and speech are alright
You get a random encounter that gives you a phaser energy wep thats pretty good.
~30dmg for 3 action points
You don't need to go above 100-110sp for a skill because of DR
>>320127560
>he don't steal his money back Red 888 Guns
>>320127970
>Playing Fallout Fixt
>>320128095
as far as i know, its been patched.
you can no longer steal your own gold back from vendors
>>320126739
>not putting 10 points in Agility
It's like you want him to get shit on.
>>320127338
Tag Big Guns, lockpick and doctor/speech
Level up small guns until you start getting the Bozar (best gun in the game) then switch to Big.
Also get awareness as your first perk.
>>320127865
Doesn't the village die with enough time?
Endurance should always be 4. It's just never important enough.
>>320126131
your build is actually pretty alright, aside from your skills. you might want to put less in charisma if you don't care about teammates.
be aware that in fallout 2, you need a significantly higher skill for anything you want to do in comparison to fallout 1. even at the very start you should be aiming to get your weapon skill of choice up to 100, and then slowly past that.
also unfortunately first aid is the one skill which is literally useless, so don't tag it.
>>320128267
10 agility is good.
You get a revolver that has 3ap shoot, 2ap reload.
Once modded it has 1ap reload
with 10ap, you can shoot 3 times and reload once in a single turn
Quick tip - in the cellar of the Reno weapons dealer (west part of city), there's a crazy old man that mods weapons for free. You can always kill the store owner and his dogs if he doesn't like you going into his cellar.
>>320128607
Village always dies, but it's not an instant game over like it was in FO1.
>>320126629
Just because you don't enjoy RPG games doesn't mean everyone else doesnt.
Some of the games /v/ loves I never enjoyed myself, but I wouldn't discourage anyone from trying
>>320127970
Sure if you play the fixt or a fan patched edition like the GoG version, not to mention the ending gets progressively worse over time and entire settlements get attacked by muties
So yes
Time is very precious
