Why do they call it 4k instead of 2160p?

I'm using 4k right now, and while I thought "holy shit, this is fucking huge" initially it wore off after a few weeks
now 1080p stuff looks horrible to me even though im scaling it evenly to fit the monitor. 4k stuff is pretty though at least
>>320115445
So society is just getting lazier and companies are taking advantage of it?
>>320115469
That was always going to be the case. 4k is about as good as it gets for small screens though, I believe. Unless we're talking 50" plus it isn't worth it for 8k.
I don't personally think resolution matters all that much for games anyway, just movies. games these days look fairly shit either way.

A 22" 2160p display will be about 200ppi
A 44" 2160p display will be about 100ppi
So if you like large format monitors which are still kind of a new thing 4320p isn't that unreasonable as it will allow for the combination of both large size and high ppi. Plus it will see 1440p join the group of resolutions that can be run with integer scaling.
>>320115192
If 4k isn't 4000, why would 1080k be 1,080,000?
One of the chief benefits of higher resolutions is a much lower reliance on post-processing things like AA.
I don't have 4k and I won't for quite a few years but there is a clear benefit to having higher pixel density

Nobody can be that dumb.

yeah, you can get away with no AA at 4k, I should probably use pngs to prove my point instead of steam overlay jpgs though
also 4k's are getting affordable : $350 for a monoprice one with free shipping. the one I got from them has fucking picture in picture, which is a fucking weird feature for a monitor to have
>>320117050
It makes more sense on the large format monitors where the PIP mode can produce segmented displays with each segment as large as a normal monitor.
>>320117050
I bought my recent TV about 8 months ago and weighed the options and decided to stick with 1080p for the time being. I couldn't get a 4k with the performance that I wanted at a price I could afford so I decided to wait. As this is /v/ I could point that the response times on the 4k screens under $2,000 are likely still horrendous in addition to the other sacrifices of display quality that would be made for a $350 4k screen, like black levels or color accuracy
>>320115497
/v/ sucked the "HD" meme so hard, of course it works
You are like ten years late
>>320116313
there is no 1080k
there is 1080p, and then there is 4k(p)

4k is only 1/27th of what our eyes can resolve. Not good enough.
