There's a lot that are just "recently" extinct animals like tasmanian tigers and mammoths. I'm personally partial to the Mapinguari, which is thought to be a ground sloth (left) by is said to be one eyed monster with a mouth in its stomach (right). I find this style of interpreting western monsters to be almost wholly unappealing or, at the very least, not monstrous in the slightest. Of that entire roster, TWO fuckers look remotely appealing to me.
Its not an age deal, its everything to do with cute and sexy being injected into my monster games.
Its not even entirely a Japanese thing, either. Its just this particularly pervasive cute/cool style. I've seen Japan do grotesque and when they do it they fucking ace the shit.
DS is a great fighting series but it is not my idea of a great MONSTER fighting series. Its a fighting series that happens to feature Scoob and the Gang's halloween party contact list.
