I always got the impression it was going to be some fantasy dungeon crawler with multiplayer options

It's definitely dead though. Looked like it had really fun spear gameplay.
At this point, it's probably either dead or it's gonna be re revealed with a new title and look radically different from what we saw a year and a half ago.
The last I heard, they had been close to being able to release it, but decided at the last minute that they wanted to change it to be better.
It's not cancelled, it's just being reworked on.
