I personally liked it, I'd say its worth a play. If you enjoyed Canvas Curse you'll enjoy Rainbow Curse, they've got enough differences in gameplay and level design to keep it fresh.
I feel most complaints are either born of shallow comparison to Canvas Curse, which don't stop to consider what RC added/changed in return, or related to content and length, when its literally the same level count as Canvas Curse plus real bosses AND on 3DS price point, so its not like you paid 60 dollaroos on it.

There seems to be some dissidence among Kirby fans about that game. Is not bad, but is not what other had in mind with. I'll try to give you the lowdown.
Rainbow Curse plays like Canvas Curse, so if you don't like the play style of that that game then you probably won't like this one either. If you do then Rainbow Curse plays exactly like it except for one exception. There is no Copy Abilities. Instead there are stages where Kirby transforms into a vehicle and must guide through him the level, but this happens once in every world except the first world. Personally I adore this game, and the levels in the later part of the game gets tough. The music is very top notch and the graphics are eye candy, but you will mostly spend your time looking at the WiiU pad (I know it sucks). However you can play as a Waddle Dee and then it plays like a regular Kirby game but that's only in multiplayer. The regular price is 40 freedom bucks, so it's lower than the usual WiiU games. The game is short, but I believe the level design is very good and the music is one of the highlights as well. Also agree with you when it comes to bosses actually being bosses and not a mini game showdown.Although truck chase is fun as hell and the music that goes with it is fuckin hype.

You forgot the star dash, its a pretty major mechanic and makes the game and its secrets work around skillful and efficient use of it since its limited availability. I like how it makes collecting stars actually worth something and there's no stupid "use ability to break a colored block" or walls with switches in entirely different levels.
For more minor things I noticed kirby is far less bouncy and the rainbow rope has a magnet of sorts, so kirby will stick to it and immediately move forward without any bounces, which makes for easier and more precise controls (which really helps in the challenges), Canvas Curse has abilities that just make kirby go all over the place

Yeah the gravity also seems to be a bit different in RC as well, and the controls, plus more space to draw your lines compare to the DS small touch screen, were an upgrade to the predecessor as well.

We got Dark Meta Knight, the way I see it they're probably having a hard time figuring out what to do with him though. They need to decide on what the hell he is, bad guy? good guy? rival? mentor? friend? They're probably also debating what to do with the mystery surrounding him and his relationship to Kirby as well as his past, with games having some semblance of lore now it would be in bad taste to make him come back and give nothing in the way of development, but developing him isn't easy since all he has been so far is mystery.
Borb is in a tough spot right now, why bother trying to get him right when you could just play with Dedede, Dedede just works, you can't fuck up Dedede.

Meta Knight is a tricky bugger, but I like how he was portrayed in the first game he was introduced, Kirby's Adventure. He helps the player along the way giving Kirby an Invincibility Candy to pass through obstacles (something that doesn't show up in Nightmare in Dreamland and irritates me since then). But he also send his own personal army to fight against Kirby as a maybe possible way to train his strength. This all leads up to the battle against him where he offers you a sword to fight a fair one vs one sword battle.
I like that portrayal and it makes him all the more badass. Another cool thing is that they didn't had to resort to any dialogue to see how enigmatic he is (until Kirby Super Star that is).Also posting superior image without the poyo.
