I've always hated dualshock, it just feels wrong.
The asymmetrical right thumbstick is that way because you don't use it as much. You mainly want to use your right thumb for the four buttons, which is why it is the way it is, and it works flawlessly.
Or if you're looking at it as the left thumbstick being the asymmetrical one, the same statement applies. You want to mostly have your left thumb for movement, not the dpad which is generally used to switch things (weapons, items).

Since none of the DS have felt unergonomically sound to me, I have to judge them by the erraneous shit that does change controller to controller. Like the things I mentioned in my post about button placement. I hate the lightbar, I hate the big mushy touchpad button that is now the start button. I hate that the share button is something I can accidentally hit and never disable permanently.
Those all matter more to me.

It took me literally seconds to get used to the Share and Options buttons because
1) Games that use Start and Select use the touch pad instead of Select and Options is Start .
and 2) If and when I needed to Pause a game I just hit the PS button and the Select button was hardly vital in past games to the point where moving your thumb 2 millimeters to the right doesn't cause me autism attacks
