I have never played a fighting game before so obviously I fumble with the controls, but even when I try my hardest it doesn't seem to have the "flow" I see in even mid level matches.

You can do some Dandy Step and Mappa Punch YRCs for the fake-outs. I think his dash is good enough anyway that you don't need to YRC anyway. But you can try.
From what I know players usually save it because he needs the RRCs for the damage. And it fucking hurts if gets those off.
