Personally I have about 80 hours in it so far and if it wasn't for D4 on Vita having as much content as it does, D5 would probably be my favourite. Shit's great. One of my favourite casts and some of the most refined mechanics in the series.

DLCs for the PS4 version are already out in the west.
If you mean the game + DLC included versions the Vita has, they don't port Disgaea games to handhelds until a good three or four years later -generally-, so you'll probably be waiting another couple years at least. They also said that it's unlikely they'll do a Vita port of 5 due to hardware limitations, though they specified they're not against porting it to a Vita successor if one happens.

The DLC is entirely crossover stuff, there's no additional main story like the Raspberyl or Fuka/Desco chapters for D3 and D4, so it's probably best to just pick and choose the characters you want unless you REALLY want them all.
Personally I just bought the Fuka chapter for Desco and then Metallia and Nisa.

If you've never done a disgaea post game before it might be a bit of a slow process. You'll be needing a level 900 Statistician innocent. You'll probably want to unlock LoC first.

Pass bills to get the Martial training stages and the Cheat shop.
Martial training stages are built for speed leveling.
Cheat shop lets you change values, including EXP earned. As well as that, it lets you change stage difficulty, which increases enemy levels which of course means more EXP.

Gameplay is probably the best in the series, story and characters are amongst the weakest.
Pretty solid amount of content and there is room for endless grind if you're into that kind of thing.
The DLC so far has been pointless. You play some side missions and then get a broken as fuck character.

My main fucking problem with D5 is they're not really demons anymore. In D1 you had the love stuff but Laharl was still power obsessed and Etna was always evil. 2 was obviously different with Adell but still had a fairly demonic cast. Mao was always happy to fuck people over and experiement on them. 4 was a mixed bag, but Val used to be a proper tyrant, Fenrich schemes all the way through and the game explains the netherworld's position between the human world and Celestia fairly well. 5 is just a group of friends trying to save the world(s) from the evil overlord.

Other protags managed the balance fairly well. Laharl was fairly evil for most of the game until his past stuff came to the surface and realised his feelings. As bad as D3 was, it did the power of friendship stuff fairly well alongside Mao's character. Val was probably the best of the bunch, being a "noble demon", it's a shame the sardine thing felt forced almost immediately.
But yeah, 5 feels so polished and the jp voice acting is top notch. Also the OP is probably the best yet.

The writers just aren't very good. They don't know how to write likeable selfish, backstabbing, etc. characters so instead they write characters that are nice and honorable but constantly say stuff like "i'm doing this to save my pawn! it's not like like you or anything!".
To make matters worse the characters are very bland and forgettable.
It's a pity because otherwise the game is probably the best in the series.

all of the disgaea games are pretty solid honestly if you've played one and liked it
if you like one give them all a try, can't hurt, i think all of them are playable, the only one i didn't hear a lot about was disgaea d2 but that looks like it got solid user reviews on metacritic so it's probably the same
the only thing you have to be careful about is what people mentioned, in d2 they trapped some story behind dlc apparently which blows, but the other games weren't really like that

True enough, but I think my other point stands. Disgaea is their more "standard" series in terms of characters and tone. The actual legitimately assholish main characters and egitimately fucked up shit tends to be in some of their other IPs like Hundred Knight and Soul Nomad instead.

Totally agree. That was my main impression of Disgaea 5's protagonist characters and I didn't like them much for that reason. They felt like JRPG stock characters rather than demons.
I've just reached post game and haven't taken Kilia beyond level 10 (which made the scene in the story where he unlocks his true potential a little anticlimactic).

If Killia fell for her or became attracted to her romantically that would only serve to weaken her development. He cares about her as a friend, and she had to learn to accept that that's their relationship - and she did.
If you personally want to see KilliaxSeraphina and are a little disappointed it didn't happen then that's another thing entirely and I agree it's a shame since I like Sera and the two are cute together. But the fact she didn't end up with him or that he didn't end up attracted to her doesn't mean her entire development was just "money".

How to spot a steam user / poorfag.
I was going to do a challenge run for the PSP port of the original game. Is there anything I should do? I can't really see a challenge in this game being difficult unless I severely gimp myself. Even then, the power of grinding fixes everything.
I was kind of thinking a solo Prinny run, but, then I'd have to make exceptions with stages that I have to throw geopanels. I don't know yet really, I've just been pondering it a ton lately. Any suggestions?

Well that's not really innately interesting to me since the grinding for that would seem longer than actually grinding the prinny up. I'm okay with some grinding, however, that seems like it would be too much. I don't know though how I would put a ruleset on anything though. Would I be allowed to transfer skills, buy items, etc, etc.
When it came to S/SCCs for FFT it was really easy since there was an agreed upon ruleset for the game to do those challenges by that left things flexible, but, also limited the player enough to create an interesting experience. For Disgaea, there's nothing I can find.

2nd, how the fuck can you master subclasses quickly? the only person I managed master all subclasses with is my sage but that was all thanks to that land decimator bullshit. Even then it took quite a bit of time to get her to where she's at today. I can't even imagine doing that with a regular non-land decimator character. Since I know subclasses are ultimately more important than reincarnation, how am I supposed to be maxing these classes in a timely matter?

Kanji Tatsumi in Persona uses っス quite frequently, it's just a contraction of desu.
I'd just have the prinnies speak informally, use slang and word contractions- that sort of thing. Simple as that.
