Hi /v/, I have a bit of a weird request for you.

Simply put, I want to play a game where the main villain is present throughout the entire story, in almost every stage. Too many times I'll get involved in a game only to have one or two teasing interactions with the big baddie before the final boss fight.

I want an adversary that's waiting for the protagonist behind almost every load screen, one that you have to fight constantly and can look forward to finally vanquishing. I want a genuinely engaging villain that takes up the story, not just a face to slap onto the finale.

Got anything for me?

Allies that turn out to be the villain in some plot twist don't count.

Banjo Kazooie has Grunty chime in every so often mocking you. You don't "meet" her until the end though.

Does this count?

Okami does a pretty good job at it. You fight the final boss at least 3 times.

RE3.

Also, Majora's Mask in a sense.

The first Golden Sun game does this pretty well
Resident Evil 3 pretty much fits your description perfectly
And I guess DMC 3 has you fight Vergil several times
Oh and Prince of Persia Warrior Within is great for it too. While not exactly recurring bossfights, you periodically get chased by a cool demon motherfucker
>>
What if he's there for most of the story, but doesn't become a baddie until the end? That count?

Final Fantasy V, VI and IX.

another world has the singular, driven focus of escaping and surviving on an alien world.

Now that you mention it, AC4 kind of counts
>>
Good topic, OP. Best I can think of is Nitros from Bomberman Hero, but he's more of a recurring miniboss that gets stronger each world.
>>
The Tales games do this a lot. I know off the top of my head that Symphonia, Abyss, Xillia and Xillia 2 do it.

FFX would be one two wouldn't it? I mean Sin is everywhere.

All "Bowsers" in the castles before the last castle are transformed grunts, so you don't actually meet bowser until the final castle.

Ghirahim is in a lot of places in Skyward Sword, and you fight him a few times.

Alien: Isolation.

Kid Icarus Uprising

can't really say how unless you play it but you become VERY well acquainted with the final boss over the course of the game

and no it's not Palutena

Not the final boss but Metal Face in Xenoblade gets a shitload of buildup (including him flying in just to fuck with you) and finally getting to fight him for real feels amazing

Fusion's pretty interesting in that despite the SA-X being a threat there's no real antagonist besides the Feds being retarded and the Hivemind trying to kill you at every opportunity.

And I guess the Babby Metroid DNA trying to maul you at the end
>>
Nemesis, DMC3 and the Yakuza remake coming out soon.
>>
I'm not certain about this, but maybe Alium Isolation?
