I think I played Isis for the gold boost and laser gators. She was also one of three choices that most resembled Age of Empires gameplay; change was scary to me.

I don't remember too well, but the Atlanteans were completely nomadic and you were supposed to build fewer, better villagers that didn't require resource points.
Other than that, I'm sure there were some other races with further quirks. Isis and a few others just required the usual shitton of villagers directed at a wood line, then assigning them from there to whatever resource you needed more of.

Oh that was fantastic, and shifting sands was a fun ability to use (teleport a group of units to any visible area of the map)
It made room for theatrics if you were going for a massive raid, or have reinforcements at the ready for a sudden meteor shower against your first swarm
