funny enough, I didn't really get into FPS stuff until like Quake 3 (except for a Descent 2 demo I had as a kid). I got into it DOOM 1/2 relatively recently.
Can someone post the giant "you want to get into doom wads" infographic?
Nocturne in shadow was pretty cool
Mapping leaves a lot to be desired though

Yeah it's called go through the years of Cacowards and play the best DOOM WADs. Then go on Doomseeker and join random servers other people are playing on.
Just played Breach, it's pretty good but died at the very fucking end with the Arch-Vile.
Valiant and Sunlust aren't bad either.

The roguelike or the mod?
Both are great.
Roguelike is less of a traditional roguelike and way more actiony. It's the only one I was able to pick up back when it was ascii-only and just play because of how simple it was. No need to learn what all the symbols meant and what the controls were because it was all so natural. So DOOM-y.
