Just fucking kill me. It's one thing to do a high road-mid road-low road thing with the additional challenge of collecting 50 to 100 rings. It's another to also make it a quest to find a specific container after also using a Past Post to eventually beat the level with 50 to 100 rings.

CD, you can either smash containers or just get 50 rings before the end of the stage and collect time stones.

I'm terrible at the time stone stages, because the UFOs have a randomized "pattern". Every time I'm about to hit one, it kills all momentum and jolts in another direction.

Silver Sonic and Mecha Sonic are kind of lame.
Also, I'm sure the in-canon reason is that Metal Sonic is the final version and Silver/Mecha are both prototypes.
This begs the question as to why Mecha Sonic could go Super but oh well.

The design was reused for Sonic R from Sonic CD and stuck. He was going to have a new design in Sonic the Fighters but they decided against it (you can still hack and play as the new design).

You have to realize, after CD he didn't appear in any capacity beyond spinoffs/multiplayer/cameos, so they just used the most recent.

In Sonic Heroes, the next game to actually use him as a boss, he got a different design.

The old games are about physics, spectacle, and replayability, not going fast, though going fast is certainly possible if you know what you are doing.
Sonic being about speed is a marketing thing, and something he ended up being about in later games. The Genesis games aren't like that.

There's no reason to use him since Metal Sonic is both stronger and faster.

Metal Sonic is just a reskin of Sonic and changes literally nothing about how you play.
iirc, he also isn't in Adventure, just Adventure DX, and you have to get all the emblems to use him, and you only get him in Trial mode, so most people have never even touched him.

Everyone in Adventure that isn't Sonic has minimal content, which usually takes place in a single section of one of Sonic's levels.

Amy has just 3 levels in Adventure.
If you skip cutscenes, her whole story is probably shorter than the amount of time you play as her in 2006.

Big and Gamma have 4 stages (unless you count Gamma's tutorial stage with no obstacles), but they are much shorter than Amy's stages.

Not at all the average. Consider that a knowledgeable person's shortcut. An extreme speedrun. Most people would probably follow the paths. It also bears pointing out that he only got a B rating for doing that, because he skipped all the points in the level.

I'm not part of this discussion, but I'd just like to remind everyone that you can jump off of a specific point of Final Rush early on and beat the level in 1/4 of the intended time. It still only nets you a C.

Yes, I realized the way it sounded and wrote a note explicitly stating that I thought having many characters with different playstyles was a bad thing for the series (with the implication that 2006 is the worst of the bunch because it tries to pull off the most playstyles by far).
My intent is absolutely not to defend 2006.

No, what happened is he failed the B rank mission the game had him playing because he didn't collect 50 rings.
Adventure does not have an actual rank system (Adventure 2 was the first to do that), and the points tallied up at the end of every level have absolutely no value whatsoever as far as I know.
