What a nice question! Yeah, goin' home. To go easy on my folks this year I didn't ask for hardly anything since my vidya backlog is lengthy enough as-is. Instead, I asked for a "Hallmark Christmas." I want to do all of the stuff we never do: Make cookies, go to the nearest "old-timey-history-village" for their Christmas celebration, go to the lights at the zoo, go caroling if we can find a troupe, that sorta' junk!

Mickey Mouse. Walt Disney's right-hand mouse. Sure, he's not primarily a video game character, but he's one of the biggest fictional icons in history. Without him, we wouldn't have Anime and possibly not even Nintendo as we know it today.

Alright, kids. Listen up smart. I'm only gonna say this once so you best screencap this and share it with folks every time you see a less-than-stellar Smash Card. You can help them out as well with this.
These will link to the two Photoshop PSD files that I use to create every single card. I made these from scratch, do you'd best appreciate 'em.
1. Before you even think about opening these bad boys, you gots ta' get'cher self the font called DFGothic-EB. This is the official Super Smash Bros. Reveal font.
2. After you get that mess installed, open up either of the desired templates. You'll be greeted with either Pic related, or its mirrored brother. At this point, you'll wanna find a good, HD render of your character.
3. Cut it out of the background if necessary and place it just above the "Character Layer" layer.
4. Copy the Layer Style from the Character Layer onto your own character's layer to give it that drop shadow. Depending on your background, make the shadow either a Multiply, or Overlay blend.
5. Turn off the "Character Layer" layer. Can't have that stick figure sitting behind your own character, can we?
6. Double click on the Smart Object that corresponds to the "Click here to change the name!" layer.
7. This'll open up a separate Smart Object. Using the Text tool, change the name from "Blank" to your character's name. This is one of the most important steps, as the DFGothic-EB font doesn't always behave itself. Some letters may get spaced strangely! Use the Character tool to tinker with each letter individually to ensure that everything looks nice.
8. When your name is complete, CTRL-S to save that mess. Go back to your main file to see that the name has changed!
9. Do the same with the Tagline font, only this time be sure to change the Gradient effect already present on there from white to something that will complement your character, or the background.

10. Next, there's the background itself. You can go with simple gradients, maybe use the Noise tool + the Motion Blur to make some quick Anime speed-lines. Perhaps find a background and then blur it a bit for a Depth of Field look. Be creative, but be tasteful. Use that color theory you learned in 3rd grade, fergodsake.
11. Find a lens flare! You can find packs of the things online. Just slap 'em in there, change their blending mode to Screen, or Linear Dodge (Add) and place them somewhere appropriate. Once again: BE TASTEFUL. Use your brain.
12. Add some extra elements! If you think it fits, put it in! Some falling leaves, an extra background element, whatever. Just keep things looking clean and appealing.
13. That's it! You're ready to save! But BE FUCKING CAREFUL.
DO NOT JUST CTRL-S YOUR MAIN PROJECT AFTER YOU'VE EDITED IT. YOU WANT THE ORIGINAL TEMPLATE FOR LATER, SO DO A SAVE AS, SAVE IT AS SOMETHING NEW AND THEN DO YOUR FINAL EXPORT.
14. Post it on /v/ every time someone mentions your character being in Smash.
