There's now one other universe whose events are not accountable to the divine intervention of the The Wind Waker. I.e. one more timeline where Termina is destroyed. The show, don't tell thing is only something that should be argued when it's within the game. If the game had 400 snippets of dialogue explaining how the Hero's Shade wasn't a Stalfos that'd be one thing, but a lot of people already thought it was OoT Link's ghost. Whether it was OoT Link, another Link, or just some knight didn't really make a giant difference on the game. It just ended a bunch of arguements that lasted for years and didn't do anything fruitful.
As far as canon though, all that matters is if the game you're playing at the moment is fun/well written in it's own context, who cares what timeline it's in. At the end of the day, it's always going to be a story about the next unstoppable kid named Link that saves the world from magic monsters, all that matters is how it's told a little differently and how fun the level/enemy design is.

Even though SS is still a self contained story, it was the first game to take the "lore" seriously and play the Spirit of the Hero shit completely straight. That and Hylia/Demise helped really sour what I like about Zelda. Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if there was something like this, like they're twins and you pick one at the start and the other interferes/helps at points throughout the game like in Pokemon.
