Hey /v/, I got a question. Steam isn't exactly well known for having easily working old games but they have DOOM I and II for pretty cheap. Do they work? Will I have to fuck with DOS? How about from GOG?
Doom is shit on steam, just download the wads from mediafire and use a source port.

I bought it on steam, controls are shit and I have no clue how to change them
so D3BFG comes with doom 1 and 2, but not the master levels, so if you wanted all the games youd have to buy the classic pack and BFG?

Don't give Bethesda your money. Id is dead. Pirate Doom. It is the moral thing to do.
>Will I have to fuck with DOS?
DOS is easy peasy lemon squeezy. Dosbox even more so. But you can use Chocolate Doom to remove the DOS element altogether and still be playing something close enough to real Doom to satisfy most purists.
If you want to play modern mods you'll probably want to look into GZDoom. Thought I'd suggest you leave that until after you've finished the originals in vanilla/Chocolate.

the doom games sold one steam just come with a preconfigured dosbox if you wanna buy it just take the WAD files and drop them on a sourceport GZDOOM or whatever you want to use

run setup and sort it out or use a sourceport

Does it never occur to you to look at the directory the game is installed in?
SETUP.EXE? I wonder what that does! Let's run it and find out!

Pretty sure you can buy it from steam and it has the wads so you don't ahve to use dosbox and instead something more doom oriented.

Doom on Steam uses Dosbox
It's native setup apparently crashes on Windows 8.1 or newer
You can easily setup GZDoom through steam
just download the wads and install Zdoom

Windows 10 here; it doesn't crash at all.
