I am very skeptical.
the new patch is great. the new boom in population is nice, and it's lovely seeing lots of old faces again. everything is different but it's all comfortably the same.
however, dont let hirez fool you - this recent patch is just a PR stunt to help usher in hirez's next game, paladins. don't expect much more support after this patch, i think the small tribes team is already exhausted and tired of being yelled at by autistic tribes redditors.

Generally it's an improvement over both PTS 2 and old vanilla T:A, although I would have preferred PTS 1.

autos as they are aren't bad. Most aren't hitscan, and are effective ways to finish off a wounded enemy. Spinfusors and explosive crossbows are still the way to go.

As for speed cap, as I take it, there is only ever a speed SOFT cap when you have the flag, to prevent someone that can go 400 from being uncatchable forever, it doesn't do jackshit in the average game.
You can still grab the flag at 400 or 500 or whatever
You can still go fast
You can't go that fast for minutes while nothing can catch you

It's fun, a definitive improvement.
Combat in general is a lot more fluid and interesting with 3 weapon loadouts. TTK is mostly unchanged. AOE on splash weapons feels a bit big though (I keep taking damage from shots I'm thinking "ok that's gonna miss me, not gonna move").
Heavies actually feel like heavies now that they have 4 weapons. A bit surprised how much energy they have now tho, you can really soar with these on a whole new level. But is fun being a flying human freight train and bombing stand with mortar+gladiator+disc in quick succession before disappearing over the next hill :D

It's basically back in beta because the said they know there will be broken load out combos and will be balancing it later on.
There's no more score streaks yet they still have the laser tag thing in the game as 6,7,8 buttons. Also with no in game credits, that means vehicles are completely free.

First off, the flag drag isn't even that much. Second, a huge majority of players will never even reach the cap point, even the best of players due to routes and other circumstances that are happening on the map. Finally, flag drag was implemented to remove the problem of pathfinders blasting through at a million miles per hour and ending the game with back to back caps non-stop. The only way to prevent this was to stack defense and snipers so hard that no one did anything. It became Turtle Ascend. Chasing was impossible because chasers simply couldn't build up the speed to catch you, thus they had to resort to defense stacking. It was either a small amount of speed reduction for fringe cases or Turtle Ascend.
Now PLEASE kill yourself. Honestly, what do I have to give you in order for you to kill yourself? You would be of much better use by being compost for plants.

I don't think economics was much on their mind when they made this patch. Game's "dead" in that sense.
OTOH, plenty of games survive without any form of progess-bar-induced progression. Quake, Starcraft, fuck, older Tribes games.
You don't need gimmicky progression if the gameplay is engaging enough. Real, rewarding "progression" comes naturally, from getting better at the game, not from looking at an XP bar grow.

Apparently free guns require that you at some point had tribes gold (either purchased or gained via a promo code) on your account. Every account that had Tribes gold on it apparently was gifted some form of "ultimate weapon pack".
So if you never had any gold on your account, you don't get everything unlocked for free, is what I understand. Just refunded what ever XP you had used for purchases.
Sucks if that doesn't apply to you, but at least weapons cost only like 1/5th in terms of XP compared to what they were at release.
Luckily I filled in the correct email when recovering my username, saved me 145000 xp to grind.

i cannot for the life of mine solve this fucking "hirezlauncherui.exe has stopped working" problem.
I tried everything; installing the game via steam, installing it via stand alone client, wiping out everything, registry keys included, restarting every time, fucking run as admin, compatibility mode, etc.
none of the hirez software works, everything crashes so i cannot even use their diagnostic tool
