What's the basis for if a game is considered tournament viable why is DOA never allowed at these things?

Having a serious playerbase is probably the biggest. DoA has a fair base, but they're not usually seriously competitive while Smash was never designed as a competitive game, but the playerbase is serious enough that it makes it in.
It's just which game can gather the most entrants. Smash is the most popular fighting-style game at the moment which is why it gets two games at evo. I bet there are some doa side tournaments, but if it was headlining evo, it wouldn't get more than 100 entrants
DoA5 is the only tournament viable DoA also competitive scene isn't big enough. The funny thing about the DoA scene is they want to be taken seriously so bad that certain costumes are banned in tournaments. DOA is gonna be known as the Titty fighter no matter how many costumes you guys pretend don't exist some people just aren't gonna take you seriously you just have to grow some skin

is it a fighting game? does it have a scene? (see persona, kof, blazblue, etc)
if it's not a fighting game, how much money are people willing to throw at kekwizard? (see smash)
Entrants. General interest.
There are tons of side tournaments at EVO. Most of which are streamed.

3d games dont have a big competitive playerbase and they never had that "revival" game like 2d games had with street fighter 4, i think is because they are generally more complicated and less visually appealing, they dont have that flash or crazy character design 2d games have
