Pathetic rager? Explain

I went to watch his long war stream once and his sniper got killed, the amount he raged over it honestly made me uncomfortable, like there was something seriously wrong with him. He was literally screaming about how bullshit the game is for 15 minutes after that until he just ended the stream because I guess he was too mad to keep playing.

the only thing I have to compare it to is this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIn4L7hUmUI

it was on that same level of patheticness

Not really a graffixfag but I have to say the style on this looks a lot better than EU
>>
>>319746182

Given that that's the exception to the rule, I guess.

Judging from the other 99% of his videos he's one of the autistic LPer's out there.

But we both know you're just cherry picking for baito value
>>
>>319747170

*least autistic
>>
>>319747170

How is it baiting? The guy is talking like each character has a defined life story. I mean, it's one thing to be attached to your minions in a game, but there's a point where your commentary about it slides into therapy territory
>>
>>319746973
It's casual, dumbed-down shit missing half it's features.
>>
>>319747093
They got rid of the cartoonyness of the past game. In EU soldiers were comically large with big stupid plastic looking armor and guns and everything was all primary colors and crap. It looked almost toylike.
Xcom2 looks like stuff that could actually exist.

>>319746873

>muh oldcom
>>
>>319747317

Not when it's happening all the time. And it's clearly being played on the lowest setting to highlight the game's action. Christ alive, the game still has its complexities like any of the others
>>
>>319747170
ok I guess its cherry picking a bit because I watched his stream a couple other times and he didnt rage, but it honestly rubbed me the wrong way

I also don't really like his style. The way he tries to be chummy just doesn't work for me. Let the gameplay speak for itself you know, your lame jokes don't enhance it in any way.

i sincerely wish we would get the management of the first series with the in-game of firaxcom

i love x-com, but the fighting of the alliums is weaker than managing the threat on the globe, whereas firaxis has a far better base for the nitty gritty minus the removal of time units of course
>>

No fun allowed huh? Xcom is a game where it becomes more fun if you use your imagination to give the soldiers you play with some kind of minor background

>>

>otherwise it's 50 bucks
$60, and the DLC is most of the special edition's price hike. So yeah, all that held back content like, I dunno, CLASSES for your soldiers is being nickle and dimed to you.

But no, it's ok when Firaxis does it. This certainly isn't exactly what EA does.

They said that they wanted the action figure look for the reboot. This has elements of it but significantly toned down. It works for the darker tone they're aiming for.
>>
>>319748001

Modding will be much easier and complete compared to the last game, so if not that you can bet there would be a mod for it
>>
>>319747994

Get it on PC, runs and plays a whole lot better. Plus, probably cheaper to get.

Beyond that, just play the first game without worrying about consequences. Then either start a new games or wait until your first ends with bitter defeat so you know how not to fuck up royally
>>
>>319748028
Oh yes, the soundtrack. I'm sure that's what people are thinking when they pay $15 extra. Yup.

There are two sides to Beagle.
Showman Beags, where he acts like he does now and his video is edited for comedic effect.

And actual Beags where it's just live commentary and he actually talks about the game and his thought process.

I much prefer his Live and Impossible series to his Ironman Impossible.

Feel like I should replay EW but I remember it being too easy after the first two months. No sniper run, maybe?
>>
>>319748472

Doesn't really matter the order. The Firaxis games are their own continuity.

And again, just play with the tutorial stuff on to learn about the mechanics and see how far you can get. It's one of those games where you're meant to get your shit kicked in and make better choices with every new playthrough
>>

meld is not worth running into 5 pods of aliens
some pods are stationary, some aren't, they won't actively engage you until you engage them
end turns in full cover and overwatch and win 9/10 missions
shivs are a wonderful complement to normal soldiers early game
snipers win games
when it comes to newfoundland, pack grenades and destroy every fish carcass on the way in, and the whale can be naded to slow down the reproduction rate
>>
>>319748570
So far the gameplay seems easy to understand, except of which nations I should prioritize and where to find EXALT HQ
>>
>>319748667

Speaking of stationary pods, they have better fixed the AI in the sequel so the powerful enemies don't walk AWAY when they're just barely in sight. Fucking hate having those damned Sectopods decide that on one load, they're gonna keep backing away like they're playing hard to get. And then in another, they're jumping up my ass if I tried to ignore them for later.

Either come at me or fucking don't

ignore what vahlen says, don't be shy about using explosives to kill enemies

when you get offered a bunch of different rewards for abduction missions its often best to take the engineers so you can build more satellite uplinks, you need to get as many satellites up as fast as possible to stay in the game, build your uplinks in a 2x2 square to maximize adjacency bonuses and try to get one or two more satellites up every month if you can.
>>
>>319748667
> end turns in full cover and overwatch and win 9/10 missions
I was doing this the entire time, overwatching and tanking/baiting with 2 MEC soldiers is OP apparently

> snipers win games
Used a few snipers though the game, and placed them in high places, but they are becoming kinda useless now, since every mission is a no damage with the aforementioned strategy

>Get Exalt missions against you anyway so you can respond
>Do it enough times and hope you don't get "Is absolutely not X" when there's 16 fucking countries to go through, and "Is not Arctic Circle adjacent" etc hints in the pool.

It literally is just guesswork and fuck em for it. ONE HQ and that's it? It would have been far better if aliens and exalt actually turned up to the same missions, since they're openly working together anyway.
>>
>>319749807

You have to do a few recon missions to get enough intel to pinpoint Exalt. But the longer you take, the more powerful they'll get, and their sabotages will only get more sever. So you either just try to make a lucky guess and risk a nation pulling out, or "cheat" with saves to get the right one right away and then execute the final mission with them.

As for Sectopods, they're not too bad if you've got the rail gun for your MECs, but they can be a pain when they'll chill out in a closed room one mission, and then flank you from alongside a UFO, on the opposite side of where you fucking are
>>
>>319749961

They have their disagreements, you can see Exalt trying and failing to intercept psychics captured by aliens (it's one of the council missions that's meant to give you surefire candidates for the Gollop Chamber).

I literally never got another council mission in that DLC chain after that, I never actually saw anything about what the fuck was going on. But there wasn't any evidence the Thin Men shot the one Exalt you extract or any of the others. Considering you take possession of the Exalt soldier when Thin Mints turn up it seems like they were at least working together since the aliens otherwise have no reason to turn up.

Would have made more sense for Exalt to turn up, but then it also would have made sense for the one you capture to just suicide.

No, you shouldnt. EW just add content. No need to play half the game first and then enable the second half and play again.
>>

>I literally never got another council mission in that DLC chain after that

So you lost that campaign or abandoned it before you completed it. The trigger for the rest of the DLC to show up is when you get psychic training.
>>
>>319749542
that's not even that bad. I once had a mechtoid literally disappear behind a waist high rock because he hid in the single space of no vision from anyone. Not only did that not make sense from a sight point of view, but also how did the mechtoid know none of my soldiers could see it in that specific spot.

Even so, the teleporting enemies bug is the worst one in the game. I snuck a stealth suit into an alien ship, ony to have 2 berserkers and 3 heavy floaters teleport to within a square of my troops, all flanking.

Don't fucking bring up the new XCOMs.
They remind me of a terrible, terrible era of my life. Namely, the six months that I wasted playing them.
I probably have over a thousand hours in them (pirated so no steam library timer) and I can safely say at no point during the entire exercise did I have ANY fucking fun with them. Any time I thought that I was going to have some fun, any time I believed myself to be actually having fun, that feeling was very quickly shut down by the inordinate amounts of bullshit and bugginess that these pieces of shit can put up.
Oh but I can pinpoint exactly what the worst of it all was. The pod system is such a broken piece of shit, I can't fathom how was the game shipped with it.

Like I said, I have no tolerance for them selling a fucking soldier class as planned DLC. I'll pirate this one.

I can forgive story missions (if they're cheap, $10-ish) solely because even the ones in EW were short little sessions with a bit of dialogue and a unique map. Something that could easily be worked on by a sub-team or group that's finished with their part of the main game already. It doesn't alter the core gameplay in any way, simply pads it out. A soldier class is the exact opposite and I will not tolerate it.

The biggest problem Classic has is it's just not fun to get set back because the amount of tedium you have to pull through to get anything done just about outweighs the feeling of progression you can have.

Like how in vanilla you tech up like it's nothing, in LW it takes so fucking long to achieve anything that makes it seem like you're actively engaged in any area, only to get shit on once the mid-game starts.

I´m still not sure what to think about Long War after all this time

I think it has some great ideas and additions, but there´s equally as much bullshit that completely ruins it

Anon, you're being very, very kind to the game.
You're being a lot more generous than it really deserves.
Let's recapitulate what the pod system means, essentially. There are pods of aliens just hidden in the map that will use YOUR turn to reposition themselves the moment they are spotted.
There are already a few problems with this. Note how I used all caps for the first problem.
Any time you want to reveal any of the fog of war, you're going to HAVE to ensure that it's done in the first half-action of your turn and that NOBODY EVER REVEALS A SINGLE TILE OF FOG OF WAR DURING THE REST OF YOUR TURN because, if they do, then the enemy is going to abuse THEIR turn during YOUR turn to reposition themselves. Note how I said reposition themselves. The excuse here is that they are taking cover. This is simply not fucking true and is a hopeful best: The enemy will gladly use their free turn during your turn to flank your soldiers. And guess what? That soldier who is now flanked or within flank distance has already spent his turn.
SO TO PREVENT ALL OF THAT BULLSHIT OF THE HIGHEST OCTANE you'll only ever reveal fog of war during the first half-move of your whole turn or when you are 1000% fucking safe to ignore this (you are NEVER fucking safe to ignore this). Okay, now you're getting into a little bit of a conundrum. What if there are no enemies in sight? YOU'D BETTER BE READY TO CONGALINE HALF-MOVE OVERWATCH OVER AND OVER AND OVER FOR THE ENTIRE HUGE MAP OF ONE CRASHED SCOUT TRYING TO PLAY MARCO POLO WITH THE SIX ENEMIES THAT ARE IN THE ENTIRE FOREST because if you make contact in a way that's not beneficial to you your soldiers WILL die in one turn. And this was, actually the meta before Enemy Within, where instead of trying to fix this fucking awful trainwreck, they added meld. Which only serves to hurry you up. Rather than fix the problem they've actually made the problem even worse by forcing you to dive headfirst into it, now.

>I'm retarded

DW only halves the number of missions you do, which means more time spent fast forwarding on the Hologlobe.

Here's the problem:
You can't get any soldiers/engineers faster this way.
Aliens only tech up slower if they're doing less.
You still take a fuck ton of time researching anything, even more with less scientists coming in.
You also run out of money pretty fast with fewer missions so it doesn't help there either. Just about all DW lets you do is spend more time getting your air up, but that just costs more with DW.

Not to mention the worst part of it all is it forces you to fuck around with .ini files as if you're modding the game yourself, when it's A) still relying on hacks on a mod unfriendly buggy engine and B) .ini editing everything is a labyrinth when it would be easier to just get some kind of XML tool from Nexus. But they couldn't be arsed for that detail.

But we're getting too ahead of ourselves here. We've accidentally stipulated a rock-solid law that would, to an untrained observer that's never played the game, seem to still let you avoid the bullshit inherent in the pod system, even if at the cost at being retardedly tedious and massively unfun.
No, no that's not it at all.
The pods in the fog of war DO NOT EXIST UNTIL YOU SEE THEM, effectively. And fighting one pod at a time is always better than fighting two pods at a time. Heck, having to fight one pod at a time is pretty much mandatory in higher difficulties, especially considering that the pods might flank your shit.
So now the entire fucking game starts to fall apart.
Look at the screenshot. Look at this.
You'd LOVE to play this game tactically. You'd love to use more intelligent cover. You would absolutely love to try to flank the aliens.
But think again.
Because if you do ANYTHING except trade potshots in high cover YOU ARE RUNNING A VERY VERY REAL RISK OF REVEALING MORE PODS WHICH WILL FUCK YOU UP.
THE OPTIMAL WAY TO SOLVE THIS ENCOUNTER
IS TO MAKE EVERYONE STAND STILL
STOP EVERYTHING
EVERYONE CLOSE THEIR EYES
JUST TRADE POTSHOTS.
AND SINCE THIS IS THE EARLY GAME YOU LITERALLY DON'T HAVE ANYTHING
ANYTHING
TO REMEDY THIS SITUATION
fuck me I'm going to sleep

>10 base crit on classic, light plasma rifle gives additional 10 crit
>even in full cover, you have a 45% chance to get hit
>leap ability can give them an easy +20 aim with height advantage
>if you hunker against this bullshit, they will spit an AoE lingering acid cloud on your troops
>each turn your soldier takes poison damage, they roll for panic
>if they panic, game over
>>
>>319751692

Thank fucking god there's a any-mod compatible little script edit you can get from Nexus then that forces enemies to wait until THEIR turn to do that shit.

Means if you ever stumble upon someone and can fire upon them, you're basically guaranteed crits unless they happen to already be in cover. Also means they're at max range guaranteed.
>>
>>319751936
I wonder how much the game would be fixed if you were simply immune to crits in full cover. I know that's what hunkering down does, but that should only be needed for half cover.
>>
>>319751830
You have no idea how DW is balanced, do you? Almost everything scales. The result of DW, is that you get less missions, so you have to play lass mission with shitty equipment.

Aliens dont progress faster, you dont get more enginers or soldiers, but you get them faster in real time. You have the same amount of scientist and research is as fast, but not interrupted by so many missions. You get the same money, as you get double the reward from doing them when you do 2x less missions.

you dont have to edit anything, its 0,5 by defult which is resonable. If you want to change it, just search the ini for "DW".

This really look bad when you do that.

Although MECs are pretty awesome in theory, they're shit in practice. They have low accuracy, cost a lot of meld, level up slowly, and lack the unlimited regeneration of SHIVs and soldiers with Adaptive Bone Marrow.

So unless you have all the resources to shit out a fully upgraded Paladin with a Particle Cannon, just forget about them.

Yeah man, I completely agree.

My first classic ironman wipes were solely to thinking tactically.

>Aha, I can use this guy here to hunker down and draw fire while the rest go around and fla-
>POD ACTIVATED POD ACTIVATED

Once I adopted the congaline the game became systematic, boring and very fucking easy, but it seems like that's the way you're supposed to play.

XCOM 2 might remedy this a bit with patrols and whatnot, but pods are still there.
>>
>>319757323
Haven't they changed pods so that they actually walk from place to place instead of magically teleporting halfway across the map between turns? I think that should solve a lot of issues with pods suddenly appearing all around your squad.
>>
>>319757978
The conceal mechanic should solve the pod problematic to be fair. A lot of the issues with pods was that they activated by line of sight but now you can actually stay hidden and scout the map with more freedom. Reinforcements having a big "we're gonna land here" signal also allows you to prepare.
