ITT: Say something good about Fallout 4

I'll start. The armor and weapon system is on point.
>>
The character creation is pretty good.

That's literally the only good thing I have to say about Fallout 4.
>>
>>319742863
It's less bland than FO3?
>>
It helps keep the causal shitters off of other games
>>
It got me back into Fallout 2
>>
>>319742863
It's a very fun video game even though it's way smaller than FO3, Skyrim, and NV
>>
>>319742863
>the armor
>plastic shit you strap to your arms and legs
>synth armor looks like un-textured placeholder assets
>>
>Better graphics than its predecessors by a lot.

>Toned down the stylized robot atomic age architecture and went with more of a realistic design.
>>
>>319742863
>The armor and weapon system is on point.
>No weapon degradation.
>No armor degradation.
It was a pain in the neck in FO3, but FNV solved it. But they couldn't learn from their betters, didn't they?
>>
>>319743117
>went with a more realistic design lighting scheme
>cranked the saturation to 11 and used a highly stylized color palette

also
>implying the ridiculous, satirical design for a lot of the technology and factions wasn't what made fallout good in the first place
>>
>Tetris
>Uplay
>Uplay
>Motherfucking Uplay

When will they ever learn? The only games I've legit pirated (not for 'demo' testing I mean) are Uplay games.
>>
Captain Ironsides is the best NPC

Why isn't there an ending to side with him?
>>
I really enjoyed the pandering to SJWs and the linear game path with little meaningful choices.
>>
>>319743068
Combat armor looks like shit too. None of the sets look like a cohesive suit. Literally just duct taped pieces on a shirt. I would wear power armor but now thats a finite resource
>>
It made me appreciate New Vegas more
>>
Everything the game tries to do ranges from mediocre to bad. I guess if i had to say maybe exploration? Its fun to just find new places to explore.
>>
>Game needs more cool looking armour.
>>
The part where the character is forcefully turned into a female deathclaw, and just after their human dick has been turned into scale-clad deathclaw pussy a male deathclaw comes from behind and fucks them senseless.

I especially like the part where the player is pregnant and later laying eggs.
>>
It gave me a laugh to see people on /v/ pretend they like NV now that there's something newer to hate on.
>>
>>319742863
power armor gameplay is a nice idea
character creation is good
>>
>>319742863
It's better than FO3. The quest writing isn't that bad.
>>
>>319743036
This
>>
Better companions than every other Fallout.
>>
>>319742863
The basic gunplay is pretty good. A few flaws here and there with clipping, but overall huge steps up from the other FO3/FNV.

The weapons customization system is pretty good. (It just didn't go far enough or interesting enough. Mods will fix it, I will shill though.)

Now, if they had actually had separate small guns/big guns/explosives/energy guns skill trees which both unlocked various upgrades, and which factored into the gunplay by affected reload time, chance of a jam, ADS speed, and sight waivering I'd have been stoked.

HATE NEWSPAPERS
>>
It was nice to see more combat between random groups when you went around the map. Hearing distant gunfire and deciding between joining the battle, watching them fight or avoiding them was good. It made the city feel more lived-in, the world more alive.
>>
>>319746240
I think it's a toss up between FO4's and NV's. 4's are seriously held back by the new dialogue system reducing any meaningful conversations to set events during their quests (and not all have quests) or during affection dialogue.
>>
I really like Nick Valentine and Curie.
>>
>>319746354

>NV
>strong independent BoS Felicia Day Lesbian who don't need no Elders
>boring, growling, tumblrbait
>genderqueer headmate supermutant so progressive
>blameless, faultless, wisecracking gay man
>floating r2-d2
>drunken slut with a heart of gold
>ghoul nobody cares about

I especially liked how none of the human companions would follow you if you so much as WENT to the legion camp, despite them apparently being one of the 'totally joinable' factions.

Nope.
>>
>>319746321

This was really great. Watching a vertiburt circle overhead, before dropping off a couple of knights to fight a super mutant horde, then seeing a group of synths teleport in to join they fray. Remains my favourite moment of the game.
>>
>>319743465
>can't just be his chief navigator and explore the post-apocalyptic world with your robot pals like you're Columbus or someone

would be a better game desu
>>
>>319746601
>reduces every characters to tumblr buzzword bullshit

so you have nothing meaningful to say
>>
>>319742863
It capitalized on the the one thing Bethesda was good at in Fallout 3.
Atmosphere of the world.
The city area is really good as well as the Glowing sea.
>>
>>319746601
>>319746601
>>319746601
i love you
post more often thx
>>
>>319743064
It's smaller in size than Fallout 3, but there's way more to do and it's got far more verticality. So many of the buildings downtown are unmarked and have multiple floors to them. In a way I prefer it like this and in others I don't. It feels a little claustrophobic and small, but in other ways it also feels packed like there's always something to do just around the corner. I don't know how to feel about it.
>>
>>319746919

>reduces every characters to tumblr buzzword bullshit

Yep. That's exactly what they did. Felicia -fucking- Day. The game was pure pandering, either to NMA or the idiot progressives that normally play fallout.

And the second Fallout 4 comes out, they slam it because they're forced to roleplay a gender-normative relationship. In a 1950's setting. Are you one of them, perhaps?

Exploring is fun and the music is okay i guess.

The game just mostly fills me with sadness.

here are my characters so far

left was first playthrough, thinking i could just finish garvey's quest line quick, 2 days later still doing radiant quests

right is my no bullshit full playthrough, all mods are fine tuned for perfect gameplay

better gunplay, better crafting, better interface, better AI, better graphics, pretty much every aspect of fallout 3 was improved upon. the best part about it is a lot of it was made with the intention of it being modded, so tons of potential for future mods with all the systems laid out for modders like the crafting system and base building
>>
>>319747523
Love the fact when it comes up, nobody talks about how great the game is on it's own.
It's never GOOD. It's always BETTER than FO3/Skyrim.
>>
Courtenay Taylor does a superb job of voicing the Female Protagonist.

Not even sarcasm, she does a fantastic time at expressing emotion through informal factors of speech, like her voice cracking when masking barely contained grief, or her speech becoming unstable when angry. Not to even mention how she does the Silver Shroud lines.

Although she's still reading a shit script written by shit writers at the end of the day.
>>
>>319747360

I agree. I like how the final act branches out a lot more than "go to hoover dam". And some of the conversations in this game were fucking awesome.

New Vegas attempted dramatic, but it bored the hell out of me. Even the best ones managed to be stupidly annoying in an attempt to be witty.
>>
>>319742863
The writing isn't offensive
>>
>>319747736
what about the male VA?

i dont think he's that bad.
>>
>>319748103

some of his lines are really memorable. He sounds almost shell-shocked some of the time.
>>
>>319747460

>>
>>319748103
Haven't played long with the male Sole Survivor at the moment so I can't really say but I haven't been as impressed with his performance as Courtenay so far.

I'll have to hit the more significant plot points to really see how well it does.
>>
It's getting a fair number of bad reviews and didn't win anything at the Game Awards, suggesting some small victory over the hype.

>>
The graphics are sometimes kinda decent. Usually not though.
>>
Gunplay is significantly improved.

The gunplay is good enough, making it a solid foundation for mods which is all the game needed to be

>>
>>319742863
the map might be smaller in size, but it's jam-packed with content, even to a fault because I keep walking past shit and don't remember if I've visited them or not, or that they're even worth visiting at all (many of them are the equivalent of Skyrim's copy-pasted dungeons, but they are not presented as such)

the towns and cities also have more verticality to them
>>
>>319748103
>>319748167
are we talking about the same guy?
his line delivery is so bland and void of emotion compared to the female VA

it's like Jennifer Hale vs. Mark Meer.
>>
>The weapon system is on point
Not really. The way the DR system works, you always want a single shot weapon with the highest damage possible. Automatics are almost completely pointless, energy pistols are too unless you want more carryweight or something which shouldn't even be a problem. The armor system I'll give you, shit is neat.

Anyway:
>Companions are leagues more compelling than FO3
>Story is also slightly better although they're really bad at making me care about MUH SON, I'd rather have just been a random joe shmoe who gets roped into the faction wars
>gunplay is legitimately somewhat better although it's definitely not perfect
>There's actually awesome atmosphere in the vertical navigation in some parts of inner-city boston, I'd love to see a full map that's just navigating a clusterfuck of a city
>Enemy animations and behaviors are generally better (save for humans which are still godawful, if I see one more faggot sprinting diagonally and maintaining perfect accuracy i'm going to lose my shit)

Fallout 1 is BARELY '50s-wank.
It gets slightly more noticeable in 2, and then they just go balls to the goddamn wall in FO3, which stuck for every game beyond that point.

Way too many people just look at Fallout and think everything has to be atompunk or whatever the youngsters are calling it- for god's sake, Fallout 1 had a DESERT EAGLE as a common weapon. One of the least '50s guns I can think of.

No, even with all of your points put into commando they don't give you an increase in DPS. The way the DR system functions, 30 10 damage bullets will always do less damage than a single 300 damage bullet.

The only exception would be if you're running a crit build. Maybe.

Are stupid.

90% of the time there's no reason to go dungeon diving other than to say you completed the dungeon because you no longer get interesting uniques from doing so, instead it's literally fucking random. It might add a tiny bit of interesting replayability, but it gets rid of one of my favorite things about NV and FO3, finding cool uniques with legit stories behind them as a reward for completing a lengthy dungeon or a certain quest.

Mind there are still a few of those, but not nearly as much and they're still heavily overshadowed by regular legendaries you find on a ghoul's bloated corpse 90% of the time.

And I can't unless he's played Fallout New Vegas, which he clearly hasn't.

Objectively speaking? Multiple FNV companions have game-long quest-lines that have further reaching implications then "will they bang you yes/no, do you get their perk". FO4's companion quests amount to three conversations that trigger from affinity built up over insignificant events like fucking lock picking.

I could go on but if you haven't got the intellect to identify that yourself, then I can't explain it to you.

None of them will ally with the legion. Arcade leaves you for good after his companion quest. All of the companion endings can be horrible, EXCEPT Felicia Day's because they didn't want to upset their super-nerd-girl mascot.

Conversations, even when they were supposed to be dramatic (ie Mobius and ulysses) were hamstrung by either unfunny crap (raisin raisin raisin) or unintelligible rubbish (bear and bull, bear and bull).

All the characters look like frogs, and the women all have moustaches.

Enjoy never joining the legion, and having the NCR crammed down your throat.

The buckets are filled with something heavy. The ropes are tied to the buckets, and the ropes are strung through the hooks in the ceiling, and then back down to the board, where the ends are tied to the hooks in the board. The combined weights of the filled buckets are pulling down on the ropes, which pulls the board up against the bottom of the buckets.

I think DR resists a set amount of damage, where as DT straight up blocks a certain amount of damage.

So uh, doing 100 damage against a 50 DR will deal 50HP damage.

DT is a separate value for firearms, and if you exceed a target's DT, you deal full damage (it has an element of RNG), but if you don't, the armour blocks all damage.

I'm not entirely sure so anyone feel free to correct me.

game is great 9.8/10

to go into detail:
boston is the very best fallout map so far, a lot of interiors and variety in the map from the wastelands to big city to industrial areas and beach areas.
weather effects are top notch and its the first betehsda game were the rain dont go trought the roof when your inside a building.
weapons are super fun, legendaries bring a good spin to the combat..also a lot of variety in the enemies.
the lore is very good, reading all the computer terminals is super fun.
a looooad of quests.
building comfy and fun.
the gore is the best so far..

if i had one bad thing to say about fallout 4...rehashed songs from fallout 3 in the radio station

>The lingo
Who and where? Fallout 2 maybe, but nowhere in Fallout 1 that I recalled were there people that acted like blatant parodies of the '50s like in later games.

Imagine wasting 100 hours of your life doing something you hate with no purpose.
No reward at the end. Nobody forcing you to continue.
What would drive a man to do such a thing? What would he think about as his precious life slipped away never to return? Can a creature such as he even be deemed a man at all?
>>
>>319750162
96 hours in and still not boring.

yeah i know, can you recommend me one?..i like ambient music that is creepy..but pls no silent hill..its overdone
>>
Actually yeah, another positive I'll give FO4- I really appreciate how the companions have oodles of dialogue no matter where you go, it makes them feel a lot more organic. Even in NV where they were very well written in their backstories, they would grow to feel a little like robotic servants after you were through talking to them.

Now was that so hard? Your claims can be taken with some credibility.
Also
>Enjoy never joining the legion, and having the NCR crammed down you throat.
I dont enjoy it anon. I screwed with every faction just to give everyone a hard time.

Also if you did the companion quests', they will join you whatever faction you choose, with one or two exceptions. Because the characters have their own back-story, they have justification not to join the legion.

Also Gannon can be convinced to stay, his story branches. You know like a proper RPG.

In my opinion NVs' companions are no gems, but they are a whole lot more interesting than 4s'
>>
>>319750306

Personally, I like the one that replaces the classical music with postmodern jukebox songs.

Postmodern jukebox is a youtube group that remakes modern songs to sound more..swing and 1940's. Rocking the wasteland to the sound of "livin' on a prayer" in a lounge style is fucking badass.

There's also the one which expands diamond city radio with like..70 new songs. They're all on fallout 4 nexus.
>>
>>319750304
I hated the fuck out of LoL and I played it, nearly exclusively, for an entire fucking semester of college.
>>
>>319750327
That was nice.
However, it wasn't a replacement for having actual conversations with them. That part was too shallow.

Best case scenario, we'd be able to talk to them more and they'd say things in various points on the map.
>>

>>
>>319750473
You can't really have conversations with them, but they often chip in if you ask them their thoughts after or during quests.

welcome to Fallout 4, where "options" are made up and the choices don't matter
>>
>>319750587
didn't need me to ruin your life if you like postmodern jukebox, because apparently it already was
>>
>>319750497
I know right? It's great because you don't have to worry about saying the wrong thing, since all options lead to the same outcome, there's no consequence to anything you pick.

The player can't be trusted to follow the carefully crafted narrative, so keeping them on a one way track like this is ideal.
>>
>>319750478
That art doesn't look '50s-esque in the slightest, it looks late '70s at best.

Don't remember that as someone who played through Fallout 1 in November, but I'll allow it as a minor example

>All energy weapons are parodies of movie energy weapons
Examples? I figure the energy pistols could be, but the big ones?
>>
>>319750432

>Now was that so hard?

I mentioned that before, but you chimped out over it, or something.

The fact that NONE of the human characters will join you if you go legion isn't excused by the fact they're all programmed to hate it. Why include the legion if they're going to be universally reviled, stuck on the corner of the map, and have a tiny handful of quests?

By comparison, the NCR are universally loved by the companions, have bases EVERYWHERE, give most of the quests, and have their own monorail to their own embassy on the strip.

Add to that the fact that casinos kick you out after winning a few thousand caps, and i'm done.

>>319750396
I know that there are many examples of how pointless your choices are, but I think my "favorite" is the "not now/unsure/later" option, when you're talking to a trader.
What the fuck was the point? Yes, No, Talk-about-subject... and Maybe? It's just saying no. There's no difference between that and No. At least some of the other options let you play your character as helpful or aggressive, which is pointless but I kinda see the point, but there's no point in saying "not now, perhaps later".
They just had to have four options and couldn't think of more than three useful ones. Fuck them for being lazy fucks.
>>
>>319750748
Legion was originally going to be a lot more fleshed out and Ulysses was originally even going to be in the base game as a Legion companion but it got fucked by a combination of console and time restraints, much like the strip.

No problem. Be careful with the mods, though. I'd recommend using Nexus Mod Manager if you've not done it before. The radio replacer ones won't cause any problems, but you might get crashes if you choose to add like..80 other mods, like I did.

Here's a pro tip, get the mod that lets you take em off and attach them to other items.

Best part, creator even made it so that it requires 2 scrapper, which is a fair balance I believe.

Long story short, modders to this day clean after those lazy ass fags at Bethesda.

And people were complaining about Obsidian games being buggy messes.
>>
>>319750879

Yeah, I know. but that's not really an excuse either.

I think there's a mod to put those things back in? legion extended? The companions still hate them though, and they're still not a viable choice compared to the NCR.

I think I just hated the NCR by the end of it, because everyone seemed to love them so much. Spend most of my time in mod quests.

Bethesda seems like they learned a few lessons on how to not be retards at worldbuilding - Diamond City isn't just a garbage pit like megaton was, settlements can grow their own food and purify water, there are actual trading interests that justify economic classes (instead of there inexplicably being rich people in Tenpenny tower). There are a lot of problems, still, but it's not nearly as bad as 3 was.

Companions are generally interesting even if they don't factor into the story too much, and I like that they actually comment on things instead of following you around super quiet-like.

The gunplay is fun, I don't know if I can go back to New Vegas where enemies stand out in the open and get shot in the face.

The character creator is top notch.

The weapon/armor system is pretty cool even if it's half baked.

Honestly, I think it's a bad RPG but it's a really good shoot and loot game.

The reason why she's opposed to the elders isn't because she's rebellious, it's because the brotherhood is dying because it's stuck in its old ways

That's objectively wrong. The only companions that get upset if you went to the Legion camp are Boone and Arcade, and you can convince Arcade that you're just exploring other options

Just become a master shekelmeister, weapon vendors always offer a healthy supply of fusion cores.

You should always be selling
>Weapons and armor you don't want or need
>Chems you don't use
>Pre-War money
>Packs and cartons of cigarettes and cigars, both are a decent supply of caps
>Ammo you no longer need, you'll be finding oodles of .38 ammo for most of the game but you shouldn't be using it after you get a halfway decent non-pipe gun

Fallout 1 and 2 were really good at teching me that if you aren't using it RIGHT NOW and know for a fact you won't need it later you might as well sell it. Hoarding is pointless.

The molerat disease. It's so good when the game doesn't mention anything about this permanent effect, you give away the only cure for it and you notice it after about 100 hours into the game. It's so funny when these players with autistic brains flip their shit and don't know whether to start the game over again because of roleplaying effects, or continue and suffer every step after this!

>>319752496
The molerat disease was a great idea that was pulled off in a sort of mediocre fashion.

It's dumb that you catch it if your companion gets bitten, it's dumb that Curie wouldn't know how we could produce more components and go looking for them with me, it's dumb that the game doesn't account for it if you avoid catching it and your guy is like "there's only... one...?" even if you're clean, and it's dumb that you can't tell the doctor "actually i'm affected by this horrible life-threatening disease too and it's possible I could fucking die if I don't take this"

But the idea of forcing the player to sacrifice something real when playing a good character is an awesome idea, yes.

Well, biddlypops, I guess i'm getting a schmeezy case of the bluesies because the character is based solely around what Felicia Day wanted.

She's basically a 17 year old idiot who knows what's best for the BoS, and her bad ending (while the others end up slaves or killing themselves) ends up with her getting huffy that the BoS won't see that she's right, and leaving.
