I just can't get "into" Bloodborne like I could with Dark Souls, or even Dark Souls 2. I played those from start to finish, no problem. Bloodborne I literally have to force myself to continue playing it. There just aren't any fun bosses, the Chalice dungeons are the least fun thing ever, I can't find a weapon that I like.
Is there something I'm missing? Some fundamental part of the game that if you don't get it, you won't have any fun?

This, I actually just tried to play DaS2 an hour ago, after playing BB pretty much nonstop since The Old Hunters.
Honestly, it's not difficult to pick up the pace of Souls again. I was surprised to find myself getting right into the swing of it, movement/combat-wise.
What I simply cannot stomach is the weapon durability, and the ridiculous amount of overhead tracking most large enemies have. It's not fun, especially when the enemies don't even have a slow turning animation to go with their tracking. They just spin in place like they're standing on top of a fucking record player. Beyond that annoyance, the Weapon Durability is literal Artificial Difficulty, corralling you into playing the game at the designer's pace, despite the largely impotent enemy movesets (aside from aforementioned tracking nonsense, but that's somewhat rare) by making your weapons unable to last until the boss if you haven't leveled your damage stat/upgraded your weapon to the damage threshold they expect of you.
It's very obvious that the directors wanted the game to be as hard/harder than Dark Souls 1, but completely missed the point of both HOW and WHY Dark Souls/Demon's Souls were hard.

there's a (surprisingly) full area after Maria.
It honestly feels on part with Forrest in terms of scope. Huge changes in elevation, lots of shifts in atmosphere between higher and lower areas, plenty of nooks and crannies to delve into.
And enemies that will tear you apart if you're not careful.
It's not my favorite area in the game in terms of look, but it's definitely one of the more impressively designed. Especially considering Souls environments usually run out of steam in the end game.
