Before anyone gets mislead, the controller in this patent includes a physical analogue stick and physical buttons. The screen on the controller is a "free form display." This means that the display isn't the standard rectangular shape everyone is used to. Rather, the display has holes in it where the physical control stick and buttons are supposed to go.
So we may end up with a handheld with a bigger screen compared to most handhelds without making the whole device bigger to have room for traditional controls. Of course, this could also mean the NX console may have a screen like the Wii U gamepad, but also look like a traditional console controller (in other words, not be a giant tablet for toddlers). While our hands will obscure certain parts of the extra space in the display, there will still be a generous amount of space to spread out a game's UI so that there isn't too much clutter.
If this idea sticks, I hope they make it look cool.

With the Wii we really had a problem because their desing choices had sacrifices like the ammount and layout of the buttons, also many games forced motion controls and the wii didn't had the option to later patch games and give more option
But then people start complaining about the gamepad like it doesn't have the same ammount of buttons as the other controllers out there, the screen isn't forced in any game, and even games with forced motion stuff ended being patched to support the pro controller, you guys are bitching just for the sake of it
