I personally use a Wii U Pro controller with pic related. It can switch between Xinput and Direct Input with the flip of a switch so 'it just werks' and has all the functionality you'd want. I also happen to like the controller quite a bit. You're paying more since you have to buy the adapter too, but it's a great pad. Don't get a 360 pad, they're shit with the D-pad and you can get pretty much anything to work with Xinput these days.
