Actually, I think that making Guile and Chun-Li the main characters was the one thing that Americans did right with the movie and cartoon. Ryu and Ken have absolutely nothing to do with the plot.

They did kill off Bison permanently midway through the American cartoon. When that happened, Guile and Chun-Li pretty much fucked off and Ryu and Ken retook the spotlight and they adapted some Alpha and Final Fight stuff, like the Shotos assisting Guy against the Mad Gear Gang.

He's Russian. That's his only alignment. In Alpha 3 he is trying to take down Bison for Russia. And in the other games, he's also only fighting to represent his country. Other than that, he was shown interacting with children in SFIV and he seemed like a nice guy.

like any movie with a big kick ass hero at the end, ryu and ken are comic relief who happened to get an actual spotlight at the end fighting sagat until the hero appears.
thing is, guile did zero to nothing important, only fought bison because reasons and then the movie ended.

I haven't watched the movie in a long-ass time (I really should ). But from what I remember, didn't Ryu and Ken get involved in the plot because they tried to scam Sagat whereas Chun-Li and Guile had actual reasons why they wanted to bring down Shadaloo? And didn't Chun-Li get more screen time than any of them?
It's just like in the games. Ryu and Ken are definitely the main characters of Alpha and SF1, but in SF2, they're just there to compete in the tournament. At least in the games, Bison's plans didn't involve them in any way.
