By creating a list of tasks to complete, in order or not, you turn what is supposed to be a fun and relaxing hobby into a job. Don't think about what games you "have" to play, don't even worry about what game you're going to play "after this one," just play whatever you feel like playing at the time.

for games, make 2 categories.
list (A) is games you want to play for fun. this can be games you personally like, stuff like multiplayer and games you've already beaten.
list (B) is games you need to beat. whenever you're bored and not sure what to play, pick from list (B).
follow that method and you'll never be bored with gaming.
with anime and manga, just binge watch/read. its the easiest stuff to complete on a backlog.

DQ 1 and 2 are really oldschool RPGs. I don't honestly recommend them unless you really like old fashioned, simple RPGs and don't mind a little grind. DQ2 especially is really difficult and has some bullshit parts.
Earthbound however you don't have to be an RPG fan to like, I think. The battles are mostly not that hard and the focus of the game feels like walking around and seeing all the bizarre stuff the game has to offer. Which is a lot, that game is a fucking trip.

Yeah. I bought the GBC version with 1 and 2 in them. They are much faster since you gain more XP and Gold after every battle. The only main difference is that the combat is full screen instead of a small screen.
