Technically not, but if you're coming in on 4.1 there's a risk you might be left in the dark on some of the more subtle story beats. EDF is a game with a complex and deep lore which requires multiple plays to really understand and rewards familiarity with the world and characters.

I already know how to dash cancel, but it doesn't seem to be all that effective beyond moving between areas and collecting items. Although I tried dual wielding the spear thing, and that was pretty fun. It felt like Gundam EX VS.
It just seems that I can do missions a hell of a lot quicker and efficiently with the Ranger.
Just picked up 4.1 last night and played the first ten or so missions.
That was some of the most fun I've had playing a game in a while. Can't wait to get home and play it some more.

Well, that's because Ranger is objectively the best for SP, with maybe Wing Diver in second. However, there are definitely some strengths even in SP. Wait until you get to take down some Hectors. You literally punch them in the face a few times and they're dead.

I think they must've improved the draw distance too. I recently played that one mission where you start out on that ridge overlooking the beach. You can see the ants crawl over to you from the other side of the map, and then in the third phase you see them crawl over the mountains while you hold off the beach.
Was fucking awesome. Considering how low budget this series is, they put in a decent amount of work for 4.1

The changes are mostly framerate and lighting, a lot more friendly NPCs than in 2025, a few new missions and vehicles. It definitely seems like a straight upgrade to 2025 but if you already played it to death you might want to wait, it's nearly the same game.

A few things set it apart
>Its got a really strong B-movie feel to it in terms of the presentation, and is unashamedly proud of it - everything from the story, to the weapons, to the enemies, to the lines of dialogue and war cries of the NPC troops is pure schlock of the best kind
