Shotguns got buffed a while ago and turned into overpowered death machines, not sure if they nerfed them at all recently.
DLC maps are mostly annoying to play but if you get bored with the vanilla ones it's worth checking them out.
Early on it was possible to break the squad limit and include 12+ people in a single squad by using the auto join on friend feature, made playing with friends a lot more enjoyable when you could get everyone in one squad.

I don't know how to explain this but I'll try. Dead Space isn't really about the horror any more. its about the intensity. Sure the 1st game is a bit scary on the 1st run but you will know what is going on in the 2nd game and 3rd. It is quite literally about the intense moments and impossible odds from time to time.

Shotguns were not viable before, I think it was the september patch that fixed them and then they got really good. 2 weeks later they nerfed them again since people complained. at least they are slightly more usable than before but I still think shotguns are a shitty weapon class since long-medium distance is the most common engagement distance. So feel free to use them, only shitters complain about it.
As for DLC/Premium, its more worth it if you have friends to play with but for the most part the vanilla maps are generally better designed/fun and more populated. Unfortunately its easy to get bored of them. I'd say go premium rather than buying them individually so you can get all weapon unlocks and try all maps/game modes and see what you like the most. I personally find Second Assault and Vanilla to be the best since they are the only ones containing classic CQ style maps, Final Stand is also okay but it has some cheesy content.
I dont have any regrets for buying premium, I got a lot of fun for the money. To bad it wasn't as good as BF3 premium maps which I hope they will bring back in BF5.

you are pretty much locked to origin for this but its not as bad as /v/ makes it to be, there are great sales going on and you should be able to get vanilla for around 3-5 $ or € when the christmasXnew year sales start. expect punkbuster and origin/browser plugin to desync and give you error messages the first time you start it but after that its fine
Worst case scenario you can return the game within 24 hours of purchase in case you did not like it, but it takes about 30 hours to get used to the mechanics and learning the game so its kind of a wasted feature for this game.

The 'Itano Circus' is one of the most satisfying weapon systems I've ever used in any game whatsoever.
Whenever I played Mechwarrior Online, I used to just go as much armour as possible and just stack to the nines with missiles, and then toss on a laser designator. Jump jet to the highest possible location and just burn through three dozen missiles at a time.

Off-topic, how can people get the cheap Rainbow Six Siege keys? I just Googled it and the cheapest I could find was 33.89 Euros, which comes to $51.06AUD, for a uPlay key which admittedly is still better than the $60USD/$82.50AUD from Steam.

You can place an object where a player can see it but not reach it. It's an oversight if there's a way to get to that area if the level isn't closed off, which seems to be the case here.
Normally something like that will just result in the player falling infinitely outside of the level geometry, but here it gives some mad shader effect. It might even be intentional.
