Every game has its own independent story, except for DD2, and they all have tutorials and shit, and the latest ones have more streamlined mechanics and UI. Although they grow ever more complicated too.

They also said they haven't ruled out the possibility of rereleasing 5 ever, though. They even specifically said "we could potentially release it on the next handheld after the Vita, but we don't know if such a thing is being made or not".
With the schedule they've used for the portable versions of 1 through 4, the Vita would be 6 years old by the time a Disgaea 5 would be getting a portable release so that comment's not too surprising.
Though frankly I don't think it's something they considered much at this point. When making a game, you don't really tend to focus on what platform you might be porting it to three years later, even if you do that often.

Yo guys, I've got a question.
I've tried getting into the Disgaea series multiple times, but I always end up stopping before I actually get anywhere. I've tried the first one and the fourth one, I also have the visual novel one where you play as a prinny.
Anyway, I'm gonna get Disgaea 5 soon, any tips? I always just get really frustrated at how easily my characters die while trying to grind in the item world stuff.

Holy shit don't remind me. This is my problem with Nippon Ichi games. The grind. Having to individually upgrade every piece of gear for a unit was a pain in my ass.
You also had to constantly grind to get the good item rewards from the hospital.
If you wanted to make a new unit you had to go to the item world and babysit them and let them get last hits on enemies like a fucking MOBA.
The whole game was an eternal grind.In spite of my complaints I still had fun though.

If you liked 2 then I'd say go for it, though you might want to play the others first as going back to previous games can be a pain when you are used to new things they add to the series.
