It's turn based, so whatever's more comfortable. VC is a good port, I played it with KB+M just fine. You can also switch from controller to keyboard by just unplugging the controller.

How do you use Lancers in this game? Their AP is so low that I can never get them to keep up with the rest of the squad. It seems like I'm better off just using shocktroopers and scouts to kill tanks.

Normally what I'll do is have shocktroopers clear a path, and then have my lancers swing way out on a tanks flank to hit their engine coil from the side.

you don't want to field all your troops at the start, but rather call em in as you go along. if you want you can often scout rush past a tank and call a lancer in behind it to one shot it. most enemy tanks are 100% stationary.
