have you ever played a game that scared the crap out of you?
Dying Light spooked me pretty bad earlier. I set a barrel on fire and a message popped up saying that if I was too loud, powerful zombies would attack me just as I heard screaming in the distance. I hauled ass as far away as I could and hid in a house for a few minutes. Turns out you just hear screaming in the distance at any time and it doesn't mean anything.
No.
Games are just rendered pictures on your screen. Why would you be scared of them?

This case in general was sorta creepy, especially when that fucking thing pops out the floor

This cunt used to scare the shit out of me, and for whatever reason she appeared pretty often.
sort of, it was more of an art exhibit that featured a ps3 than a game though.
the whole idea was combining a little 3d maze game with ever changing hallways with a projector so that it made things appear outside the space the game took place in.
OP's picture reminded me of the style, all monochrome and whatnot, very very unsettling.

Literally scare the crap out of me? No. But scare me? Sure. If you consider jump scares me getting scared then Ive been scared by a game a ton of times.
stranded deep
never again

Silent hill when it came out, was so stressed I could barely play
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat.
Everblue 2
All I will say is it's a diving sim for the PS2.
Play it alone at night, and don't look up gameplay (as if you even could). There are no screamers or anything, but not knowing what you're in for in the shipwreck exploration stages really adds to the sense of danger. The spacing between deeper dives is perfect, too.

Except for the bird that can teleport, yeah.
Welp good I turned off image-hover in this threa!

I used to play the first silent hill in the night as a kid with the lights off and all alone in my room and didn't even flinch, was more amazed at the technology of it back then.
Now I can't play games like that or that give you jumpscares because I act like a fucking faggot and end up turning it off, the fuck happened? Anyone like this?
>>319628295
silent hill and silent hill 2 were creepy as fuck and did so by relying on being relentlessly creepy, not on endless jump scares
>>319627489
Doom 3 when I was like 9. Dad made a fucking mistake.
>>319628316
There are some buildings that were actually pretty spooky and underground was supposed to be scary I think but I didn't think it was that bad. Being above ground at night feels more scary to me cause I feel open and vulnerable. Also snorks
>>319628372
yeah that couldn't possibly have been two birds
>>319627489
No, because I know it's not real.
I'm really good at immersing myself into fantasy and losing myself in a world, but it just doesn't work for horror because I know the creator is trying to scare me. There's a motive behind it all, and for some reason, it pulls me out and makes me remember that it's not real.

I remember how they used all kind of mumbo jumbo psychology to fuck with people, like how the ambient sounds were engineered to give unease depending on the situation and location, with exact cues and specific sounds, iirc it's detailed in that book, lost memories.
>>319628606
yeah, the sounds especially did it, but it was everything else, too. you know, the overall atmosphere of it
and it wasn't just "oh wow this is spooky"; it was no big deal until you'd been playing for a while and had been soaked up in that atmosphere, and it really started getting to you
fucking masterful games, really

P.T. scared the everloving shit out of me.
I have a serious anxiety problem and the repetition but always knowing that it MIGHT be the same or MIGHT be totally different at any given moment really fucked with me.
>>319627489
Yea the sims
I found out how depressing my actual life is
o fuck, this thread is too spooky for me
I'll just chime in with the typical "underwater segments in vidya unsettle me" comment
SH1 fucked me up pretty bad during Midwich, but that whole ordeal just ended up desensitizing me and the horror games I played afterwards were never the same.
I was in grade school when Ocarina of Time came out, and the Redeads in the graveyard while I was still Kid Link spooked me silly. (Two of them ganged up on me and gangraped me to death the first time I encountered them)
