sid meier's alpha centauri is the best game I've ever played on any platform and it worked on my old laptop even after the graphics card was fried and it was showing pink spots everywhere

Just beware, there's a gorillion games in the series, all by different devs and not all are worth playing.
Soldiers: Heroes Of WW2 - first game, best campaigns, bad UI
Faces Of War - decent campaigns, sometimes weird balance choices, unpolished UI
Men Of War - rollercoaster campaigns, pretty much finalised balance and UI
Red Tide; Vietnam; Condemned Heroes - higher difficulty SP expandalones
Assault Squad 1,2 - completely MP oriented. Also newest engine, probably too much for integrated video. Some workshop campaigns are pretty good.
Call To Arms - weird modern reskin with no gameplay changes (basic armor penetration calculation, no active/reactive stuff) at this point.
And then there is a clusterfuck of titles and subtitles for Russian releases but nobody cares.

pretty good, though it does drop in frames very low if you have massive 100+ men vs 100+ men battles. i'd say keep it on low to medium amount of soldiers in a battle and it should be a smooth experience. it might be different for you because i am literally using a petrified piece of shit
