Will they fuck it up?
>>
Possibly. That they're even doing it reeks of desperation.
>>
>>319555021
Probably
>>
Will they retcon the ending of 2?
>>
What do we know about it other than that it is being made?

Anything?

Can't really say much one way or the other with no real information.
>>
shodan will be elizabeth
>>
They'll probably make it into a "Bioshock, in SPACE!".

>>319555618
The team behind it has some SS2's dev team members, and many Bioshock's devs.

>it's System Shock Infinite

i have lost all hope for good games ever coming out anymore

im just playing pre-2007 games to eternity
>>
>>319555021
It will be the Fallout 3 from System Shock series.
>>
>>319555227
it ended on a cliffhanger, why would they?
>>
>>319556208
because they can?

I'll be system shocked if it's any good.
>>

will there be shodan fanservice?
>>

Nah
>>
>>319555863
It is already done.

>>
Is there anyway they would not possibly fuck this up?

I mean nobody who was even on the original project is left right?
>>
>>319555021
When was the last time an old series came back and it DIDN'T end up shit?

Of course they'll fuck it up. Original devs or not.

all the ingredients for a decent game :^)

Hey guys, remember when looking glass' other beloved series returned with Thi4f? Remember that, guys?!
>>
>all this pessimisim itt
Look up the developer before you light your torches.
>>
>>319555021
It's not a question of whether they'll fuck it, but how badly they will.
>>
it's going to be oversimplified and underwhelming

I can already see the devs making decisions based on retarded playtesters like "maybe we should just get rid of the element research system because that's science and science is BORING"
>>
>>319557585

We've been down that road before too with other games and returning developers. That was over 15 years ago. Even if it is the same team, there's no reason why they wouldn't have been indoctrinated into modern gaming business practices and gameplay choices. Why wouldn't they? The reason almost all modern games do it is because it's seen as an improvement and evolution that more people like, even if it's at the expense of the hardcore/old school minority.

I hope it's good, but there are no brakes on the pessimism train.
>>
>>319557072
It's not a AAA game and they're not being paid to make a AAA game. System Shock is owned by Night Dive. They're niche based around classic PC games.
>>
>>319556861
this
you stupid parroting FUCKS

it's being made by otherside entertainment
that's basically LGS today
>>
>>319558548
Developers lose their touch over time. We all thought Epic Mickey was going to the greatest shit ever because Warren Spector was working on it and it ended up not so great.

Convince me /v/.

Pic not related
>>
>>319555021
Are they really doing a SS3?
>>
>>319558718
even so, they have little room to overspend and they're the kind of devs that would try to bring it back right
if only they were to make a real Thief

you probably wouldn't like it
>>
>>319558808
All that we know is that it's being made.

It will probably be underwhelming rather than bad. While I liked Wasteland 2 I also thought it was underwhelming after all the hype I had built up over it.

That's probably my fault, but I don't have any hype for SS3 yet, so maybe if I stay uninterested I'll have a positive expectancy violation.
>>
The devs sound legit but I worry that they'll have to 'adapt' for today's gamers to be marketable.

That possibly means no permanent skill changes, toned down menus and no keeping track of chemicals for research.
>>
>>319556113
same.

with the benefits of the games being made as games and not as revenue-generating assets, no casualizations, the games being patched, no cash-grabs, no microtransactions, almost no dlc, and no insane hardware-requirements.
>>
>>319558050
>System Shock is owned by Night Dive. They're niche based around classic PC games.
They're niche based around bundling old games and selling them with free community-mods.
>>
>>319560875
How do they sound legit?

Any proof they can do modern games at all?
>>
>>319562404
Did Night Dive just pick up the rights to distribute SS1, or the whole series?

Certainly something must have been worked out given the proximity of the two announcements.
>>
This game didn't need a sequel.
>>
So I'm playing SS2 and as soon as I actually start the game (not the training mission sims) I walk on my own in a random direction.

Is this a bug or something with the controls?
>>
>>319557072
>regenerating health
If they slowed it down enough it would make sense in a nanomachine context. Like 3% a minute.
>>
>>319555760
That's not even funny.

Kind of sad that we can't expect a game to not be extremely dumbed down these days. It's worse that a lot of people somehow think that modern games are much more complex than older games just because they're newer.
>>
>>319564103
nah
>>
>>319555760
More likely EDI, since the setting has similar anti-AI views after Citadel.

...actually they both have a Citadel too, don't they.
>>
>>319563891
Night Dive owns System Shock now. The rights, the games, the future.
>>
>>319555021
Of course they will.
Expectations will be on par with Half Life 3, but without the blind consumer hypetrain meme audience behind it. So while HL3 can suck and still be praised like the second coming of Jesus, this will be treated rather harshly if it fails.
>>
>>319563946
That's silly. SS2 ended with a clear sequel hook. It needed a sequel, but it needed it years ago back when people made non-casualized games.
>>
Does no one understand who Otherside Entertainment is? This is the same group that is currently working on Ultima Underworld Ascendant. They are basically comprised of ex-Looking Glass Studios staff! There are far worse hands the project could be in.
>>
>>319565013
It's weird to say, but a reboot probably would have been better, since trying to keep the whole SHODAN shtick going for a third game is going to end up pretty convoluted.

Getting her into SS2 was contrived enough as it was.

They bungled SS2, what chance to do they have of getting SS3 right?
>>
>>319558050
System Shock 1 and 2 were AAA games of their time.
and Night Dive intends to expand to console.

>According to Kick, part of the plan is to release a console version as well, and this would be a first for the studio.

do you really have to ask?
>>
>>319565430
And I want to be excited but come on anon, Ken Levine lost his touch, Warren Spector lost his touch and a lot of the guys working at Otherside might have gone the same way.
>>
>>319564112

Huh, they could implement a mechanic where you'd spend your nanites for slow healing, simulating the regenerating health effect while also giving an incentive to not use it.

It'd have to be balanced carefully, I remember Regeneration in Deus Ex being really powerful.
>>
>>319556787
Heh
>>
Is SS1 worth playing or should I skip to 2
>>
the only way this game is going to be even remotely good is if it supports modding from the get-go and lets people add classic features back in while removing anything new like bloody screen, zoom on sprint, ADS, regeneration, and corner mechanics
>>
>>319567158
>Ken Levine lost his touch
He never had one.
>>
>>319566219
>>319567158

Fair points, I think it is hard to have faith in good games these days...still, I'd rather it be these guys than say Eidos or EA. Who knows? Maybe they'll get a crack at a proper Thief sequel if things go well.
>>
>>319569178

SS1 is more archaic, but its really good

get the mouselook mod to fix tank controls
>>

>>
>>319555021
Yes.

Give up all hope for quality games anymore.
>>
>>319555021
If it's anything like its disappointing predecessors it's already drawing from a poisoned well.

System Shock 2 is easily the most overrated game to come out of the 90's.
>>
Can they even legally make it?
>>
>>319569178
Skip right to the latest Call Of Duty.
>>
>>319570206
Why not?
>>
>>319569931
2015 wasn't so bad.

But I've given up all hope for "old" PC games that get a modern multiplat sequel.

The single exception, Deus Ex, turned out okay I guess, and then their colleagues completely fucked up the Thief series.
>>
>>319571235
XCOM turned out alright. I really can't think of any others though.
