He's talked about enough during the late game to know that he's the guy you're supposed to stop unlike Necron who was never explicitly mentioned at all. Not saying he's a good execution of an antagonist, but to not know who he is by the end of the game is dumb.
Squall's deal in FFVIII was that he was a loner with abandonment issues. He always worked with his allies professionally because he had a strong sense of duty and responsibility, but he always pushed them away whenever they came to him for any reason outside of work because he didn't want to get close to people out of fear of losing them later.
As the game goes on, he's still quiet and to himself for the most part, but he learns to trust and rely on his friends.

Believing Orlandu to be broken is a function of his strength when you get him. Tactics is a poorly balanced game and combining Ramza's Scream abilities makes him the best in the game. Dual wielding Chaos Blades one shots anything, so getting 12 turns to anyone else's 1 makes him literally the most broken.
Auron is just way too edgey for me. Rikku is, again, like Vivi, way more likeable as a character. She might not have the grim-dark-depth that they ham fistedly foist on to auron, but her screen time is much more enjoyable.
However this last one.
Celes is -literally- the focal point of the most poignant scene in the entire series. How you could possibly put Sabin ahead of her... is mind boggling to me.

I can't see Zidane winning this unless you twist the meaning of "Angel of Death."

If Limit Breaks are an extension of the VIII's cast power, Squall would win because he should be as fast as Zell, and Blasting Zone would be too much for Zidane. Two years after the ending of Final Fantasy IX.
The happy ending was not to last. Zidane has not accepted by many of the subjects in Alexandria as rumours circulated that he was the brother of Kuja, whose wrath had brought such death and destruction to their world. Not to mention the fact that he frankly lacked the intelligence to rule a country, being more apt with 'street smarts.' It all caused a massive strain on his relationship with Queen Garnet, who also had become tired of his incredibly high libido. Her ass simply could not take it anymore, which led to arguments.
Freya was also having a hard time. Fratley never did remember her, causing her pain every day. Eventually, she thought it best for both of them if she simply moved on.
Meeting in a pub for drinks and reminiscing, this is the suprisingly bad news an increasingly drunken duo had to share. Zidane looks into the bottom of his last pint, and sighs. He really thought everything would work out for them both, but now...
Suddenly, he feels a hand on his leg, and looks up into the blushing, yet keen face of Freya.
