Handheld games in general have a short dev cycle (1-2 years) so games generally are announced much sooner to release than on other systems.
Nintendo often announce games on 3DS only months away from release. Kirby 3DS came out one month after it was unveiled for example. The exception to this are games whos localisation status isn't known. Those games tend to take a while to come out. But games that get confirmed worldwide release come out relatively quickly.
Zelda Triforce Heroes and Mario Paper Jam were both announced in June and released 5/6 months later.
So we could easily get games in 2016 that we won't even know about until E3. Oh, and there will very likely be a new mainline Pokemon this year too.

I have a computer for indies and the 3DS's weebshit can be actually good, but you usually have to stick with known series like SMT and Etrian Odyssey.
I like my Vita, I really do, but out of that list, I have maybe a quarter of it and ten games that are actually exclusive to it and worth owning. It's becoming the Dreamcast of handhelds, where it has a decent library, but you can play most of its good games on other platforms.
The thing about these threads is that you always compile EVERYTHING into one list that you expect people to see and go "Wow, the Vita does have games!" when most of it can be skipped and the games are very different and don't interest everyone. Like I said, I have a computer for indies that I can get either free or absurdly cheap. Most of the fighters on that list are better played on another system. A good portion of that list are PS1 and PS2 games that are better played on PS3 if you're going digital. I was never a huge fan of the Warriors series and the Vita isn't a good system for them anyway. Games like the new Atelier series I feel I should skip because I played Rorona on PS3 and it bored me to tears, and I have much better JRPGs to play right now. Same goes for shit like the Miku games and Dancing All Night because I have much better rhythm games to play as well.Also: Battle of Z? Really? Holy fuck you guys are grasping.Not to mention that a good portion of the list is Japan only, and I have no interest in learning Moon or paying more to import. The point is, you can't just shove everything together and expect people to go out and buy Vitas. It simply doesn't work like that. Shit compared to what? Don't get me wrong, I hate Nontendo, they are getting shittier and shittier as the years go by, but the 3DS is the only thing that they really have going for them. It's mostly due to lack of competition, but it's still selling, and people seem to enjoy it.
I have a 3DS, it's only for monster hunter, and I would rather be playing that on almost anything else, but it still sold me a 3DS and it was fun enough.
Funny thing is, I feel like one of the biggest things holding the 3DS back is its stupid 3D, it's a stupid barely functional gimmick, and gave the 3DS a really crappy display, (even in the newer ones) would have gotten a 2DS if they didn't make it a wedge of cheese.
TLDR: 3DS is still the only handheld on the market worth anything, even if nintendo is turning shit, gimmicks like 3D are hiding back the handhelds. Don't want cheese wedge.
