The level design is absolutely fantastic. Many different routes and many different ways to tackle objectives. Now that sounds like the advertisement for a contemporary title, except 2000. The narrative is great too. So many little motifs throughout the game like the recurring novel you can find in various rooms and apartments, it's just a damn good game man.

honestly though the whole several approaches is great until you get the boss fights that fuck you over
walter simmons point blanks me when I have no fucking ammo and no bioelectricity two different times and I have to play hide and seek after running past his stupid plasma rifle barrage
also some weapons are just weaker than others or have very little use, and some skills become absolutely necessary out of fucking no where
first time going to paris I had 0 health and no skill points and was only slightly trained in environmental hazards so I literally could not continue even with a hazmat suit on and there were no vent shafts that I could find for alternate routes
tl;dr- great game, overrated a bit especially with the shitty endings that make human revolutions look good

I start the game, and some old guys are talking about some boring shit. Something about a plague, I guess. The only cool part was when they were talking about me being a supersoldier.
My hopes were dashed as soon as the game started. Considering I'm a nano-aug (what the fuck does that even mean) the fact that I die in a handful of pistol shots is shitty.
Guns and melee in this game are both broken. It takes forever to line up a shot and bullets do laughable damage.
I couldn't even bear to finish playing the first level. Fuck this game, and fuck v for calling this turd a great game.

The thing about Deus Ex 1 is that you can skip every boss fight.
All of them.
Just run past them, and then slam the door in their faces.
You can skip every battle.
It's probably one of the only games that advertises the ability to complete it without firing a shot where you can legitimately do that.
