started playing Yakuza 4 yesterday. 5 is downloading but is super slow.

I'm playing through 3 and 4 first, since I got them on sale years ago but never really played them since I thought the series was never coming to the west again...now there's new shit and hope for the future so I can allow myself to love the series finally.
Too bad about the lack of 1 and 2 HD in the west and the PS2 versions being too fucking expensive.

I think it's pretty clear that characters like Kiryu and Rikya are idealised positive yakuza, who aline with the way the organisation was viewed during and after the war. The vast majority of the Yakuza in the games act like scumbags, so my view of them really hasn't improved.

I have lost count of the amount of times I have had to beat the shit out of young Yakuza for being disrespectful to civilians throughout the series - Add that to the amount of Yakuza that hassle you in the street. I would deff say that the lower levels of the Yakuza are not put into a flattering light in this game.
The higher ups are treated a bit differently, but so many of them have still fucked you over in the series I don't think it puts them in a great light either.
