When I was a kid there was a guy who ran a couple of really old shit computers out of his shed.
My friends and I would go there, pay $5 and play Red Alert 2 LAN all day.
Later during highschool a proper LAN cafe started up and it was tiny unknown place with a great community. After a couple of years it filled up with dudebros and children so we all stopped going.
Also used to go to huge organized LAN parties. Never really played much there I just went to leach and fill up my hdds with whatever cool shit people had.
Dont do any of that shit now.
I might head out to an arcade on Saturday because I finally have a Saturday off work and they have a weekly Guilty Gear thing. I'm probably the worst fighting game player in the world but it should be fun.

Not publicly, no. As a young teen I did visit a local LAN multiplayer place that offered computers with variety of games to play with your friends or other people there, that was pretty fun but I couldn't imagine myself doing it today. CS 1.6 , C&C: Generals, 1942, Battlefield 2 and alien vs predator 2 were the favourites. Good times.

I'm a typical schizoid and I have no interest in meeting people. I don't game socially, I socialize game-ily. If I go somewhere, I go to play the game. Like a weekly MtG draft or arcade event, I'm just there to play the game. The only reason I need other people is because AIs usually make boring opponents.
Since most people have relatively good PCs and internet, most if not all people i know lost incentive to do that.
You can just talk over skype with your friends so why bother going to net cafe and using dirty random PC that works worse then yours and i forgot to mention random retards/kids screaming.
This home version just seems much more relaxed and smoother.
I'm a melee player. I've met countless people through my game, some of my best friends actually.

I avoid the whole barcade meme scene because I live in the same city as TBFP and I would fucking kill myself if I ever came accross them and their fans in real life.
When I have the time, I like to head over to the local arcade. Since this is a college town there's a lot of people there. Also they have a modded stepmania cabinet so that's also a plus.

I used to be staff that ran a monthly LAN party. We'd regularly get a good 50-60 people every time. It was a hoot, charged like $10 a head which covered the location rental and buying network cables/switches/servers/miscellaneous for the LAN and any extra went toward buying door prizes. I also somehow ended up being the official sponsorship wrangler and usually schmoozed $100-400 in free prizes out of online businesses every month. Even ended up designing the shirts we had printed.
God damn you, broadband internet and MMOs. I used to have fun. Now I barely even play any multiplayer games and the LAN died a slow death.
