Holy shit do I ever hate borderland's art style. I mean, at first I thought it was neat a quirky, as was sort of impressed that the games looked different than brownshooter#5239, but I just realized that it's mostly a cover for the totally garbage modeling and animations. You learn to realize that the game is actually really, really fucking ugly.

To put it simply, the Anime ran out of source material. The manga never finished it's run by the time the Anime got there, so they just made their own shit up.
I think the episode where Kanta wakes up to Junko in a nurse outfit was the episode that they ran out of material. And you can see the drop off in quality. The original artist lost interest in continuing the manga for a long while because of how bad that shit ended up. And then when he continued, he just sorta followed the anime just to get it over with. No idea how things are now, but the last I heard, the art quality and writing quality dropped hard when he came back. He just wasn't into it.

The episode before that, in my opinion, is the canon "end" to that anime. I believe it's the one where they have to protect that giant sand truck.
The manga was at the campfire before the action started in that episode when the anime got there, and was stuck at that point for a couple years after if I remember right.It's one of my favorite, underrated anime/manga out there. I just wish it didn't turn out like it did. It had such fucking potential.

A lot of the times they do it specifically to help market the manga and increase sales. The anime gets people interested in the source so when it ends they can pull a "want to see more? well buy the manga!"
Sometimes they rush things a little too fast though and end up having to go with anime original endings, which are generally always ass.

In my opinion the original was darker and more personal. The villains were just humans who were evil enough to to genocide people for a false immortality, no evil laughing black blobs with questionable and confusing motives because it isn't a human.
All the homonculi were once people, they each had their own stories. in brotherhood they were just fragments of the laughing imp with a shit load of forced emotion bullshit.
Like the whole thing with envy was cringe "but envy you just envy humanity". Like no fucking shit it's a ball of souls with a mind that embodies a flaw of a magical creature, that flaw being envy. Why are you trying to make strong emotional rationalizations of it if? It's fucking obvious it envy everything because that's it's entire existence.
I hated Hoenhiem being made into a dindu rather than a guy who actually committed a crime and is trying to redeem himself. I hates Kimbly being toned down, I hated scar being tonned down.
Like Scars whole story felt like it was fucked in brotherhood, his brother was fucking nothing compared to the guy who gave his own cock to bring back his wife.
I also hated how simple the philosopher stone is, It's just human souls, there is no depth to it. The whole edgy red water process was much better, even though the "needs pregnant women" thing was dumb.
