I thought it sucked at first, but then it got incredibly powerful. Basically, as weird as it sounds, it's a great melee class.
Once I unlocked all the moves, I now go like this :
The melee skill that lowers enemy physical def > The ranged skill that does Debuff Res > The green skill that grants supercharge > wait for the secondary cooldown of the melee purple skill that deals more damage when you are full health.
I combined this with Background Noise skill (more damage when doing melee skills from the back) and I destroy pretty much everything in my path.

Melee Arts are your bread and butter. Getting the beam attack up skill is great, be sure to combo the melee arts (try to let them all charge the secondary cooldown), get healing auras on and that one healing when buff skill. That's all I have going now and can wreck most things almost 10 levels higher than me.

Anybody else feel like the first xenoblade had a better story? So far XCX is a snorefest. But yeah the real criticisms to me are: System explaining (yes read the manual but the game really does a shit job of explaining itself), Gathering missions (after XC Monolith really should have found a better way to deal with this), sound mixing (during cut scenes the music seem to go over the voices. They really should have given us music sliders), and party leveling (Really should have been like XC where everyone got EXP and so you never felt like you where limiting yourself by switching your party around).

The biggest flaw is the collectible gathering, just like in the first.
Arbitrary times and regions and weather for some items just makes it unfun and a headache.

When I'm running around getting treasure and such, barely any revenue comes in.
When I go grind some monsters to level classes, I get it much much more frequently.
