Xenoblade. I didn't expect this either. I only got it because my Wii U had no gaems.
Before this, I was certain that MGSV was GOTY, followed closly by Witcher 3. But this game is blowing me away. It has massive short comings and flaws though, but what it does right it does so well it makes up for those flaws.
The video game industry is dead. All the hot shots of the 90s and early 00s are gone or have turned into something else entirely. I have preached this to /v/ for five years now how the industry has already died, but no one is realizing it until now. It's okay, it takes revelations like Shenmue kickstarter. FF7 remake, and microplay to bring everyone to the truth of what controls the game industry today. Everything that made video games is currently dead. The AAA scene, Valve, they all control the face of what we consider interactive entertainment, which is hardly interactive.
A revolution is on the horizon, but for the moment, it is quelled by the flashiness of the mainstream hype. The indie movement isn't doing anything to fix this, so what will happen? Will it all remain like this for eternity...or will a spark come from somewhere we will not expect?

MGSV was the only decent thing that came out this year so I'll go with that.
