Why this series died while twisted metal is still alive?

Activision purchased the studio. ie. it was going to die anyway.
Another reason is that Twisted Metals creator cared more for the game.
Twisted Metal is barely alive.
I did enjoy vigilante 8 much more though.and the wacky physics of bassquake
