Hi /v/ my mother wants to get me something for christmas and it could either be an I5 4460 or an GTX 960
Current build
FX-6300
GTX 750 TI
500W PSU
I really enjoyed Arma 2/3 on my G3258 but ever since I went to an amd cpu the game's not even playable
But I also want to be able to run skyrim enb's at higher frames too
Which should I ask for?

To change to Intel's CPU, you'd also need a brand new Motherboard. Intel's and AMD's processors use totally different sockets, and they also change every couple years and so.
That being said, the GTX 960 would be the only valid choice in this case, unless you can talk her to get you a decent LGA1151-socket MOBO as well.
I'd personally just take cold cash, and wait until next year. The DX12 cards are just around the corner.

I already have an intel mobo from when I used my G3258

...also adding one more thing:
Make sure your PSU has enough right kind of power cords to power up the video card! The GTX 750ti is a neat lil' low-power card, so nobody should have issues with it, but 960 is a one step higher tier.
I'd personally try to get GTX 970 instead. The jump would be bigger, the price:performance ratio better, and the price difference isn't too big either.

in that case, the CPU might be the thing.
Assuming the 750ti is 2GB, and you're fine with the quality & speed of games, I would stick to it until the first proper DX12 cards come out in 2016, and maybe wait for their prices to drop a bit too.
If you're doing 1080 only you don't really need to go that high.
>500w psu
why would anyone do this?
>>319294523
What are you saying anon?
>>319294523
If you don't have DVD drives and a shit ton of other useless shit then 500w is still completely fine.
>>319294002
>>319294258
both of these, either way its very good
OP here
I got it!
Ill sell my amd mobo and cpu on /r/hardwareswap for about $100 and ill also sell my 750 ti on there for about $80 and get an used 960 for $150
And ill ask for the cpu from my mother
>>319294523
Well what's the minimum you would recommend? I have i5 4460, 3x1tb hdds, ssd, ancient hd4850 and my old psu just gave up on life. Is 650w enough?

>/r/hardwareswap
Was this supposed to be a troll post all along?
Fucking underaged shitters.
>>319295681
See >>319295480
And after seeing so many negatives and terrible optimization on most games from amd I kinda wanna stay away from they're products
>>319295770
No.
I saw >>319294335 and thought long and hard about how I could manage to get both
