Fallout NV worked because they actually gave you infinite means to get back to max durability, unlike FO3 where once the T-51b takes any damage, you can NEVER EVER get it fixed again.

It offered an interesting weapon balance where you could have really powerful guns that were balanced out by breaking after like 300 shots, like the LAER or alien blaster. Look at how what the Alien Blaster ended up as with infinite durability in FO4, it's fucking pathetic. The Alien Blaster, traditionally a deliberately broken easter egg weapon balanced only by flimsy durability and limited ammo count, is terrible.

Basically, if the game gives you any sort of readily available repair system, there's literally nothing wrong with a weapon degradation system.

IIRC there are repair NPCs, no? They can't keep it 100% but you'll never have it broke. Can't you also use outcasts armor to repair it?
>>
>>319282267
If a weapon statistically AND visibly changes due to its degradation, yes. Guns jam, misfire, are unreliable, etc. and melee weapons get chips, dents, fall apart...
If only for the reason to spend resources on repairing them, that's stupid.

No, the only repair NPC that can bring it back to 100 is Soma from Mothership Zeta, who is coincidentally one of the characters who's just like "lol bye" and can never be found again after you beat it. You can get weapon-repairing alien epoxy from the ship forever if you have decent RNG, but nothing for your armor.

While we're on the subject of Fallout can I just say how fucking awful it is that they decided to add a shitload of "do more damage with this kind of gun" perks?

I'm not taking any fun niche perks because I can't see any legitimate reason to take anything other than "actually be able to kill things with this gun" in what is blatantly primarily a shooter.

What the fuck are you talking about? Games that let you carry every weapon ever are objectively shittier.

Just look at GTA V. So much opportunity for mechanics, but no. You just get a cluttered menu of about 30 different weapons and every event is basically a rocket launcher quickdraw contest.

SO FUN
>>
>>319283263
It's weird how you can use the 51b to repair OTHER powerarmors but not vice versa.

To keep you on your toes, so the game can have overpowered weapons with low durability to have some fun with, etc

The idea behind weapon degradation is to prevent the player from picking one gun and being a boring shitter with it, using one good weapon the entire game instead of spicing things up and actually playing the game.

So? Freemode, and missions, and heists, and the vagos shit doesn't have that, so even missions that are set up to do drive by's as evident by the style just have people spamming sticky bombs, getting out, and strafing with rocket launchers simply because it's easier.
It is seriously shitty design.

You'd think such a system would force you to choose between which stuff to bring with you on adventures, make a choice between more versatility or more carry space, or somesuch. But most of the tgimes it doesn't do anything like that and you can still carry the equivalent of a ton which turns it into nothing but tedious bullshit every half hour, with no meaningful choices whatsoever

in FO3 guns and armor get less effective as they degrade. They do less damage.

Going through a lot of effort to get this unique hyped up power armor only for it to be permanently not-as-good as it originally was is a pretty lame reward tbf

especially when they introduced an item to give weapons basically infinite durability later on

I mean the less you carry on you, the more loot you can bring back, the longer you can be out, the more shit you can get to sell off for useful rare items. Even in FO4 I tend to pause while thinking about what I actually want to bring with me this outing.

>>319283626
Well you picked a game that has a weight limit/weight management systems. If you don't like it, play another game.

You are literally the same as the people around FO4's release who argued that RPG micromanagement mechanics were lame because they just wanted to "explore and shoot mutants" when there are MULTIPLE OTHER GAMES that cater to that style of play.
>>
>>319284104
Fallout 4 has RPG mechanics?
>>
>>319283897
Now I want to make a melee+molotov only crew in MP. Imagine 10+ players rushing someone parking outside passive mode and everyone starts bashing his car. You'll be easily killed over and over but I'm sure it will scare a bunch of players getting swarmed by bats and knives.

Oh and we'll pack em all in a prison bus so everyone can hang out and "driveby" targets.
>>
>>319283626
I simultaneously loved and hated Resident Evil 4's inventory.
>>
>>319284104
That doesn't change anything though, really. At most you'll lose out on a bunch of steel and springs because weapons are the heaviest. Since you can instantly teleport to and from bases it's essentially a non.issue
Now if you couldn't teleport and if there were survival mechanics it could be meaningful
>>

>they just wanted to "explore and shoot mutants" when there are MULTIPLE OTHER GAMES that cater to that style of play.

But it's not the NEW thing anon! :(
>>
>>319284179
This was when people were starting to figure out that skills were gone and making a fuss about it, I saw someone genuinely try to argue that even if it was dumbing down, what about the people who "come home from work and just want to shoot mutants and explore?"
(STALKER, Borderlands, among other games)

He does have a point.

The amount of shots you can take it limited by the amount of ammo you carry.

It's really no different from weapon condition points unless the game doesn't have any means of repairing them.
